We stayed in the Best Western Hotel San Giusto for two nights at the end of September 2007. We found on the internet a discounted rate of 85 euros per night B&B, which was quite right for what the hotel offered.
The room was not the biggest and the color of the furniture and carpets was quite dark, but it was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was nicely decorated and spotlessy clean, but a bit on the small side, too.
One very positive point of the hotel was the continental breakfast: fresh bread and pastries, jams, butter, cheese, ham, and everyday a new and delicious cake!
On the negative side, the hotel is in an old building, so the room was quite noisy (could hear people walking, talking, showering in other rooms), but that didn't stop us from sleeping. Another problem is that the hotel is not 5 minutes by walking from the center, but 1/2 hour. If you don't want to walk, the buses stop just outside the door, though. They have a garage, which is quite cramped and expensive (15 euros per night!), but it's worth using it since it's impossible to find a parking place along the roads of Trieste!
It was a pleasant stay at the Hotel San Giusto (even though the weather was terrible...) and we will for sure consider it again if we ever go back to Trieste. But only if we find again a discounted rate under 100 euros.
My ratings for this hotel are:
4.0 Check in / front desk
3.0 Value
4.0 Service

Not worth the money

A quick reveiw of the hotel San Giusto. Stayed in hotel 1/31/03-02/06/03. Since I am in the military and deployed, I reviewed the hotel on-line and then had my wife fly over to stay with me at the hotel. The hotel amenities listed are very overrated. I did all booking online through the Best western website. I asked for a queen size bed (which they advertise) and instead received a room with two twin beds pushed together which continually seperated. They advertise a restaurant, but it is only open for continental breakfast from 7am-10am. No lunch or dinner. They advertise a spa or sauna. The hotel has a sauna but it has not been operational for a year according to the staff. Plus they don't expect it to be fixed for a while (read months). They advertise concierge, but they don't have any. You can not use a prepaid phone card to cal from your room phone, you must instead use a pay phone down the street. The rooms do not have any source of air conditioning other then opening the balcony door and letting mother nature and all other noises in. The rooms do not have bathtubs...only a shower (that is very small). They do not have any currency exchange capabilities nor are there any close to the hotel; For the pluses: the staff is very good and helpful, the continental breakfast is exceptional, Taxi service is superb..less than 1 minute to get a taxi in most cases. All in all..it is not worth the $140 a night in euro / $149 a night in US dollars that I paid. If I knew that it was this bad, I would have stayed somewhere else. Why didn't I change hotels during my stay in the city? Because all other hotels were booked. During my stay in the city, I did get an opportunity to stop by the Hotel Jolly (Italy's chain hotel) and look at a room. It had all of the proper ammenities and less expensive. Next time, I will stay there or possibly the Holiday Inn.
