My husband and I stayed in this hotel for one week this month. We have previously stayed here two years ago. We found the hotel to be well run and efficient. The breakfast is a well stocked buffet.
Rooms are clean. We had a side sea view which was small in comparison to the sea view room we had two years ago. The bathroom had a shower which was quite small and no bath but was clean with towels replaced every day.
The location is good, just on the edge of the promenade walk, away from the noise at night. There's a really nice pine forest just behind the hotel which is great for shade during the heat of the day.
Overall, expensive to stay there but a good hotel.

We very much enjoyed our stay in this beautiful hotel although there were a couple of problems.
We had a magnificent suite on the first floor with superb sea views. The hotel staff especially at reception and in the dining area were very pleasant. Breakfast was generally very good but on two occasions there were delays in the supply of scrambled eggs.
The attractive swimming pool which is on the roof is difficult to swim in because it is only about two feet deep; this is compensated for by lovely jacuzzi-type water systems in different parts of the pool.
There is a very attractive restaurant by the pool where it is possible to dine romantically and well.
The hotel is right by a bus stop so that it is relatively easy to get transport to other parts of the coast or the airport.
On two days of our stay our room was not serviced as it should have been. We spoke to both the manager and assistant manager of the hotel about this and they assured us that this was not acceptable and would be remedied.
On th whole this is a lovely hotel in which to enjoy a relaxing holiday.

Typical Italian Grand Luxe Hotel

I landed here for one night as part of a tour of Italy and had no major complaints, other than the fact that I don't particularly like Italian "grand luxe" hotels, with their eccentricities. I had a nice room with a partial view of the sea. The food was delicious and I found the service friendly and helpful. I just didn't like the dim lights -- too dim to read by in bed -- and the lack of amenities. That is, you can get anything you want, but you have to ring the concierge. The weak dollar made everything outrageously expensive and the hotel's steep prices only made one want to spend money outside the hotel. On thursdays (I believe) there's an interesting street market outside the hotel which is popular. Didn't stay long enough to try the beach or the pool.

Nice beach hotel

Viareggio is a so-so beach resort, but centrally located and easy to get to Siena, Florence, Pisa and other Tuscany destinations. This hotel is very luxurious and the staff was exceptionally helpful with our requests for train schedules and restaurant reservations. The rooftop pool is one of the nicest pools we have had in Europe and the spa has some excellent massages (we did the hand massage with cascading water from many jets spraying warm water while having the oil massage)....truly relaxing and a bargain at 40 euros for 30 minutes. Great Turkish bath and Sauna also. Our stay included breakfast and the selection and service was typical of a 5-star hotel. All together a good 4-day experience.
Good hotel in an OK resort

We stayed here on the first part of a 3 week honeymoon in Tuscany as we wanted to have a week on the beach before exploring the countryside.
The hotel met my expectations in that it appeared to be the best hotel in the resort and it had a lot of character. We had a sea view room which was a little small and is very expensive (approx 400 euros pn) for what you get. The overall quality of the hotel was obvious though in the quality of its food, both in the main restaurant and the pool side restaurant.
The resort was disappointing, though typical of an Italian beach resort. You pay for an umbrella and chairs in a beach club that is packed full of people and has very little space and no peace and quiet. There is an upmarket row of shops behind this and a number of bars and restaurants, none of which came anywhere near the quality of the hotel restaurants. It is not to say that the resort isn't good for a typical Italian beach holiday, just not really the type of experience we really enjoy or are used to.
We understood when we chose Viareggio that it may be like that, just expected a little more charm and hoped it may be more picturesque. We did actually enjoy our stay, but when looking back on our honeymoon it is definitely the countryside and Florence that stand out and not Viareggio.
