Exceptional Views

I had the opportunity in June 2008 to spend 6 days at this converted castle into a boutique hotel. The views from the hill where the hotel sits were magnificent, the vineyards, the green valleys, the rolling countryside. The service was very good, but the concierge,Andrea was simply the best. Everything I asked him,he answered patiently, offered additional suggestions, and made arrangements for drivers,wine-tasting and restaurants.
The hotel has a somewhat limited dinner menu which we tried one night..excellent service, tasty food, though a little expensive.Breakfast buffet was very good, love those croissants, and was very plentiful.
I would recommend the hotel for honeymmoners, romantic couples and adults..not a place for young children..and probably a stay of 3 or 4 nights as there is a limited number of things to do or see.
If you go,make sure to have Andrea set up a cooking class/dinner with ALBERTO..it was one of the top 2 highlights of the trip.
Great Expereince

Stayed four nights a Castello di Velona in October 2007. The hotel and the setting are incredible. We had a beautiful suite with separate living room. Staff very helpful arranging wine tours or recommending restaurants in Montalcino. The only thing to be careful of is the hotel restaurant, which while excellent, is very very expensive. I would go back.

Beautiful hotel - we love it

We've stayed at CDV several times when in the Montalcino area (September) . It's a breathtaking location, the views are wonderful, the restaurant is very good, the outdoor areas (with pool) are great, and courtyard dining is lovely. I want to stress - the staff is wonderful from top to bottom. Very knowlegeable, and friendly. One caveat - you DO need a car as it's about 5 miles from the actual town of Montalcino. But it's peaceful and surrounded by vineyards. Along the the way is an amazing stone church with a section dating back to the late 800s. Hi to Allessandro (Mgr.) , and say hello to Vito for us!!!!
A Piece of heaven
