Okay-ish

This hotel was a bit of a let down. I expect more from a four star venue. Firstly, there were two choices of room; a modern or classic. We went for modern. The area was painted mostly black with very dim lighting and made us feel like we’d entered the set of a sci fi porno (lepeord print cushion included). There was a thin sliver of window in the room that looked out on to a building site. And I’d requested a ’superior room’! So, trying to stifle or laughter at the ludicrous decor we asked to be put in a classic. The classic was much brighter and lighter except it was all very floral and to be honest made me feel like I was in an old peoples home. But it was clean enough so we made the best of it. (Talk about extremes!) The service was ok, except on a couple of occasions when asking for coffee delivered to the room, was presented with half a small cup and it was luke warm. On the whole the staff were fine although I got a hint of disrespect from one of the guys behind the counter who seemed to have a permanent smirk and a disability to look and talk to me, rather than look at my (beautiful) girlfriend and talk to me. Oh, and you wouldn’t use the swimming pool. That’s all, thanks for reading.

The building is lovely. The views are lovely. It is very very clean and the beds are really comfortable. However there are too few staff around and the ones that are seem fairly unhelpful and don't seem to know much about the sort of information tourists want or care that much about the guests. The restaurant is pretty awful. Also, when we went there was a party that went on from 12 midnight to 3am, there were very few people attending, and they wouldn't turn the music down and didn't seem to think it was their problem that we couldn't get to sleep.

We stayed one night here one the way back to the States (moved from points north to Catania, to be nearer to airport). In contrast to esteemed other reviewer, we found the hotel staff to be helpful and friendly. The facilities were very attractive and well maintained, as was our room. Price for the room was also reasonable at 140 Euros/night, breakfast included. We had dinner at the hotel, which was OK--the service was good, and they did appear to be trying hard, but I didn't find the food that memorable. One disappointment here is that the hotel is listed as having a pool, and at the time of our stay did not have one. Major renovations are going on in the rear of the property, including a large concrete pit that apparently will be a pool someday! Did not find the hotel's "suburban" location, a few km outside of the city center, a drawback, but an advantage. Catania is somewhat dirty, crowded, and noisy, and being in a relatively restful setting away from all that was pleasant. Getting into town is easy--buy your 0.52 euro bus ticket at a Tabachi, then take the 429 bus which stops just outside the hotel gate. I don't think I would stay in Catania again, but I would recommend this hotel to those who are.

We went to Del Bosco for the New Year (2005) and our time spent there was somewhat marred by the dreadful customer service received at the hotel.
On arrival we had to queue for 25 minutes on the steps of the hotel just to book in. The rep or the staff did not think it necessary to escort us inside to wait.
Some people returned to complain about their rooms immediately after check in as they had no windows, fortunately mine was adequate.
Personally, I think the staff would rather pretend that they did not speak English, than to actually engage in a helpful conversation.
Long walk into the town, buses are frequent though once you have worked them out!
