We stayed three nights last May at the Sport Hotel Veronello.
This hotel is a bit strange because it is part of a football center. The situation is not as great as it could be. Okay, it is in the countryside but very close to the highway and along a road. So it's pretty noisy for the countryside!
The garden is quite nice and it was pleasant to have breakfast there in the morning. The hotel was full of Germans and English little groups so don't expect an Italian atmosphere!
The receptionist kept speaking to me in English despite me speaking Italian! A bit weird!
And when you get to breakfast at 9: 30 everybody has already left so there is not much of an atmosphere! Nevertheless breakfast is really good. It is not that common in Italy to get a good quality and interesting breakfast. And this one is! The ingredients are good and fresh (lots of nice homemade pastries, fresh fruits, very good scrambled eggs etc.)
Lots of disappointments though : carpet and rugs in the stairs and corridors should be taken away as they are too old now; one of our rooms was disappointing as it was supposed to be a superior but had just 2 extra beds in it which we didn't use. The bathrooms are quite small.
There are bikes in front of the hotel you can use but the lake is not that close and it is pretty hilly. It didn't seem as if they were often used because when I asked about them the receptionist didn't seem to know much about the keys and more...
Also, while we were having breakfast we heard a huge fight in the restaurant between the boss and the staff. That's not very professional... They must have forgotten we were still there so the atmosphere was not that fun!
The beds are also very hard so not really comfortable.
The worst is the pool area. The chairs are too old and not clean, the table cloths totally faded, the pool itself looks a bit old which is a pity because the garden is really nice. Lots of things should be replaced to look again like a real 3-star hotel!
Unfortunately that didn't make us feel like going to the pool despite sunshine and warm weather.
What's also not so nice is the building next to it which hosts the football club and it's so close you just can't avoid to see it. So the whole thing is supposed to be in the countryside but the feeling is that it not really is...
When we stayed there there was not much atmosphere as everybody seems to leave for the whole day and go to the lake for the evening (no one around the pool these three sunny days and just one table for dinner at the maximum!). It's true that it's much nicer to have dinner on the lake!
Overall it's not a really bad hotel but it's just too expensive for what you get. And there are some much nicer places on lake Garda. But it seems it is the one which still has rooms left when the others are fully booked!

Bike-Hotel zu sein;

The Sport Hotel Veronello was our favorite also. We completely agree with the previous reviewer about the warm welcome, superb bikes, Italy's best bicycle guide, excellent meals, nice clean rooms.
Rooms are simple, not fancy but quite comfortable. We had a balcony overlooking an adjacent vineyard.
Food was excellent at both breakfast and dinner, and they packed us a sack lunch - including fruit, sandwich and desert on each day we were out bicycling.
Massimo was the one of the best bicycle guides we have ever had and the routes were absolutely beautiful. We are intermediate-advanced cyclists (and have bicycled with many different tour compainies all over the world) but the Veronello and Massimo were the BEST, and offer all levels of riding, road and/or mountain biking. The rental bicycles they offer are top quality.
The hotel also has a very large lovely outdoor pool, garden, and patio dining area: a bit too cool while we were there, too bad.
It is true that the hotel would be difficult without a car or bike, and is off the Lake Garda shoreline by about 2 km, in the countryside.
We are already planning a return trip to stay longer. (But not in summer high season, when we would guess the entire area and hotel are very very crowded)
The Sport Hotel Veronello is a member of the Italy Bike Hotels
consortium, check their website, and was the best of those we stayed at. We had a package which included room, guide, and meals.
The staff were all wonderful and helpful.
Can't wait to return.
