After reading some reports of this hotel we were rather apprehensive. However our fears were unfounded as we found the room, very good, food was excellent, and the staff, especially Karim and Mohammed were really friendly. We celebrated our Wedding Annivesary whilst we were thereand we were made to feel really special throughout the length of our stay (1st to 10th September 2007).

Our room was 513. It was spacious, clean, with a nice marble bathroom and very good air conditioning. View of a couple of houses in the foreground and mountains in the background. It is not on the lake but the price would be far higher if it was. The hotel is modern. There is one free computer in the lobby which was usually not occupied. Must be used frequently as a business hotel because we saw business groups apparently attending a conference. The reception desk is manned by people who are not very proficient in English. It appeared that one person each shift pretty well understood English and the desk staff did not exactly rush to help you; but once you got their attention they were helpful. Our cab driver told us some people complained of small rooms but our was great. We ate at a restaurant called Vapore in Cernobbia, a 10 Euro cab ride away. It wa pricey, but great. Truth is, most everywhere in Italy is pricey. You just have to get used to that. Reservations are advised at Vapore.

We recently stayed at the Grand Hotel di Como. It is a fine hotel. This is a business-type property, not designed for charm. Everything about it is fine. The room is good-sized. The air-conditioning worked well, the restaurant is excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel in not in Como. It is across the lake, a few minute boat ride away. That was no problem. In fact, for us, it was an advantage as the hotel was very quiet. Their web-site is very accurate in describing the property and the locale. You can stay there with confidence. Harry Graham
