Il Querceto is a million miles away from a typical package-holiday hotel – up in the mountains of the Supramonte, it lies within a short drive of the beaches of Sardinia’s east coast, but is also near the start of several of the walks in the Sunflower Landscapes of Sardinia guide, making it an ideal base for those seeking an active holiday combined with relaxation. Our large bedroom was furnished in traditional style with a balcony, thick stone walls providing coolness during the heat of the day, & the reception and dining rooms were beautifully decorated with sculptures & paintings.
The welcome we received was second to none: Mama & her two sons spoke excellent English & used it to good effect in explaining the Sardinian dialect on the menu, & making us feel at home.
The family pride themselves on serving traditional Sardinian food made with the finest local ingredients, & their pride is not misplaced – everything we ate was superb, from the freshly baked bread & home-made jam for breakfast to the gullurzones (pasta stuffed with potato & egg in tomato sauce), scallopines (thin cutlets of pork in mushroom sauce) and the ricotta cheese dessert we had for dinner. The restaurant was very quiet in mid-May, but the choice & sheer quality of the food made up for the lack of atmosphere & we ate in on each night of our 4-night stay.
Il Querceto is currently being extended, & although there was some minor noise during the day, this in no way diminished the enjoyment of our stay.
Walking in the locality is greatly recommended, especially the Gorroppu Gorge and Monte Tiscali, where a nuraghic village shelters within a collapsed cavern on the mountain top. Dorgali and vicinity was one of the best places we have stayed in - we intend to return!

Albergo bello e accogliente
