an ok location next to busy road and railway line but stunning views over the lake, good food and service from attentive but not overbearing staff.

Booked this place through there website, it states that they are 1.2km from Orto San Guilo, this is not true. Its more like 5km by a busy road with no pavement. When I pointed this out to the reception she stated that the distances where as the crow flies.
Well as I am not a crow I was not impressed.
This is a package holiday hotel, if you like hoards of kids, and other package holiday types then this is the place for you. If however you like quality, good service and great food then avoid.
When I checked it there was a German woman complaining about cockroaches in her room to which, the staff said just hit them with a shoe.........! Draw you own conclusions.
I was booked in for 4 nights, we stayed one. I stay all over the world in different classes of hotels, this rates as one of my worst experiences. Watch out for hotel websites that do not tell the truth, its time they were brought to book.

We stayed at the L'Approdo for a week in August 2006 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was comfortable and spotless, although in future I would book a room with a lake rather than a garden view as the lake is simply stunning. The food was delicious and the staff friendly and very helpful. The surrounding area is lovely and the town of Orta San Giulio a delight to stroll around during the day and evening. I would recommend the hotel to couples and families, but if you have a teenager who is easily bored - think twice before booking! All in all, the best holiday I have had for years!!

Stayed for a week September 05. Hotel entrance unattractive and lobby uninviting, but room (2nd floor) with balcony overlooking lake was spacious, attractive and comfortable. Roof leaked during massive storm (remnant of Katrina apparently) but staff moved us quickly and without hassle to an identical room one floor below. Dining menu very good and waiter service could not be criticised. Breakfast the usual standard buffet. Walks from the hotel along lakeside very pleasant, but avoid the dual carriageway if you value your life! (Note - extra floor being added Winter 05 to Spring 06)
