After reading the (mostly) glowing reviews, my husband and I called the Sangallo Palace hoping to be able to stay there for two nights, rather than go on to Orvieto, as we had planned.
Manager Andrea warmly answered the phone, gave us a great rate, and then, said he needed no credit card guarantee - our word was enough.
We were not sure where to park, so my husband dropped me off and I went to the front desk to inquire. There was Andrea smiling, welcoming. He left the desk, went to the car with me and shepherded us to a safe and secure space right outside the hotels front door. He then took our bags out of the car and brought them upstairs for us.
Check-in was a breeze. Again, no credit card necessary. Andrea showed us to our comfortable, well appointed room. We tried to tip him. He refused, saying, almost sheepishly, "My family owns the hotel. It is my pleasure to make this a good experience for you."
Later I asked about where we might hear live jazz. We were directed to several spots. (There is no shortage of live music in Perugia, being the home of the Umbria Jazz Festival.)
Two days later, at check-out, Andrea insisted upon giving us a gift. He recalled that we liked jazz and gave us a collectible mug from last years jazz festival.
We have stayed in hundreds of fine hotels and have never experienced this level of personal commitment to fine service.
Grazie and Bravo Andrea! Bravo Sangallo Palace!
PS. Yes we did finally present the credit card at check-out...

We were looking for a 24 hour escape from Florence and found the Sangallo Palace--and then found Perugia! This hotel is beautiful, the rooms immacualte and comfortable and beautiful--loved the bathroom--and the service was beyond the call of duty. Shared some great restaurants with us and overall very kind and helpful. GREAT location--walking distance to historic areas. Great escape!

we stayed ther at the end of May 2008 (two ladies, two nights). The hotel is a bit too big for our taste. But great location, nice room with view, clean & comfortable. Very good and warm hospitality, any help and information are given with bright face. In less than 5 minutes any of our requests were satisfactorily fulfiled. We recomend the hotel, only the food (breakfast) was unsatisfactory, poor quality.

Loved this hotel, just so elegant and beautiful. Really enjoyed my stay here even though it was brief.
The restaurant is fantastic and the staff friendly. Its location is so good that its near the bus station where you can take trips to Orvieto and Assisi.
Also its not right in the centre like so many other hotels so its location is quiet when Perugia is busy, however if you are wanting to get to main square its just a 10 minute walk....if that.
Cant recomend this hotel more!
