We stayed here for 2 nights during a week-long stay in Italy. We booked directly with the hotel online and were required to pay in advance by credit card. Upon arrival we checked in with no problems.
The hotel itself is lovely - in a square in a part of town which isn't too far to walk to the "centre" (although Spoleto is pretty tiny, so nowhere's really far away). The communal parts of the hotel were very nice - there's a bar, 2 large lounge aras with squashy leather setees and a computer, presumeably with internet access, papers and magazines are also provided in the lounge areas. There's also an outside terrace area which was very pretty, they have candles on the tables at night and it would be a nice spot in the summer.
We had booked a "superior" room but, to be honest, I couldn't see what was superior about it! It was nice enough, though - clean, looking out onto the fountain in the square. Small-ish bathroom with shower. There was a fridge in the room as well.
The only downside, if I have to have a quibble, was that the breakfast (served in a room downstairs which was quite nice) was pretty appalling! Still, who goes to Italy for the breakfast?
The Hotel Charleston was really nice and we enjoyed our stay. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The breakfasts out on the vine-covered porch were lovely (typical Italian breakfast: breads, yogurts, juices, meats). The room was clean and spacious and even included a small refrigerator that helped us keep our bottled water cool. The staff were all helpful and attentive, and happily spoke to me in Italian, but were quick to pick up on the fact that my boyfriend doesn't speak Italian, and spoke English to him....all without any patronizing attitude! The location was nice--not too far of a walk up the hill to the duomo, but not too far down the hill to the trendy shopping street and other churches worth seeing. I would definitely stay here again.

My mother and I stayed at the Hotel Charleston based on their trip advisor reviews and the reasonable price they offered. We booked a superior room, which was cute, spacious and had a nice view out on to the square. The bathroom was quite large with a bathtub. At first glance it was quite nice.
However, whenever any water was run it sounded like an airplane was landing in the bathroom. Unbelievable.
My major complaint was that the mattresses were the worst I have experienced in any of my travels. YOu could feel and hear the springs. My mom kept laughing because everytime I moved the entire bed squeaked.
I will say that the staff was excellent--friendly and efficient and the breakfast buffet quite good for Italy.
If it wasn't for the beds I would recommend the place, but if I can't get a good night's sleep, I simply can't say that it is a good hotel.

We spent our St. Valentine's week-end in Spoleto, and chose the Charleston Hotel because it was centrally located and the rates were very competitive. We're a young couple and love to travel but had a very low budget so we took advantage of their week-end special offer for couples and ended up spending less than we would have at a B&B; we spent 60. EUR per night for a double room, breakfast included.
We were travelling by car and had been warned that parking in the town of Spoleto would not be easy, added bonus of the Charleston is they have their own garage (but you have to pay extra for it). You will not need a car in Spoleto as everything is within walking distance, but you will need a car to get there, not very well served by public transpoertation...
The only negative bit: our week-end special included room, breakfast, and "all you want from the mini-bar". When we arrived we were given a room which did not have a mini-bar. We didn't notice this until the next morning and when we pointed this out to the concierge they immediately assigned us to a different room.
The breakfast was great, the rooms were cozy, well furnished and overlooking the Piazza. Overall we were very happy with service and ecstatic about the rates. We did not try their cuisine as we ate out every day...maybe somebody else will be able to comment on that.

We stayed here for two nights in October 2005 during a whistle-stop tour of southern Tuscany and northern Umbria. The hotel is great - small but perfectly formed, with incredibly friendly staff and lovely, unusually-decorated rooms. Spoleto itself, though it poured with rain the whole time we were there, is a lovely little town and well worth visiting. The only problem is with the traffic - it's typical Italy style, one-way systems everywhere but no-one really taking any notice of them. I think we drove around for about 45 minutes before we could work out where to park!! Anyway, that was a small price to pay for a few days in this little place - I would heartily recommend it to all visitors, young and old alike.
