Great staff, bad management

My new husband and I stayed in the Eden Roc hotel in June on our honeymoon. We thoroughly enjoyed the hotel, the staff and the rooms with balconies. We had a junior suite and really enjoyed the stay. Our gripe was with the managment. We had changed plans to travel and rang on the Saturday to postpone our arrival from Monday to Tuesday. They said that there was no problem to cancel but there would be a cancellation fee. On Tuesday we then had to delay until Wednesday so we didn't cancel Tuesday night until Tuesday morning. Again a cancellation fee. The sore part was the cancellation fee was ?760! We were charged full price for the junior suite for both nights. We could justify paying for Tuesday, even though it was cancelled by 9.30 am. But we really felt that being charged for Monday too was greedy. There was no allowance and no discussion. It left a sour taste to what was a lovely stay.

Before booking our hotel in Positano (5 nights in July 2008) I had read all the reviews and was very confused as to which to choose as they all looked so good. I choose Eden Roc, because it had views and a pool. We were not disappointed - it was great! If you go in Summer a hotel with a pool is essential, as it is hot until late in the evening, and you are already hot from the walk back from the beach. The town is 5 mins walk from the hotel, and the beach about another 5 mins - easy walk down, but a little harder walking back up hill. There is a bus that goes around the town on the 1/2 hour, and Eden Roc has a bus stop right at the door which is very convenient. The breakfast was great - best we had seen in our Italian holiday. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Room was a good size, with a balcony and beautiful views.

Unpretencious. Everyone was very friendly from the moment we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble. We loved our room overlooking the sea. If I had a choice I think I'd stay again at the Eden Roc. Noone else ever offered me an "Italian Cappuccino" as enthusiastically.as at the Eden Roc. And spending time by the pool, followed by break for lunch on the roof top. Fantastico. Rooms were very clean. Views spectacular. Ok, the road's a bit of a pain, but you get used to it. We loved it. Best four days in a long while. Fantastico. P.S. the traveller photos say it all.
