Spent the last night of our Italian trip here so our grandson could say he had seen the Mediterranean. The hotel was lovely, our room was very nice, with two balconies looking out at the sea. Everything was perfect except the RAIN! Can't fault the hotel for that. They did have umbrellas for us, so we did walk the beach after all.

I wouldn't say this is a bad hotel, but surely the only person who could give it a 4 star rating would be the owner. Even he would need a few drinks first! I've stayed in various 4 star hotels before, and this place was well behind on every level.
Where to begin...
The public areas and room were well decorated and clean, but the first word you would think of is small;
The air conditioning only made the room warmer;
Even on the top floor you could hear traffic noise all night;
The shower only worked if there was no one else using it, and even then the pressure was poor and it went hot or cold without warning;
The buffet breakfast never changed, and was cheap - instant coffee, dry pastries, greasy scrambled eggs, microwaved bacon...
The evening menu was very limited and grossly overpriced. I also suspect it was the chefs first time in the country, as we never saw any Italian food on the menu;
The 'private beach' and most of the facilities promised turned out to be in a beachclub half a mile down the road, it cost 20 euros pp pd, and half of the services are only for 'locals' anyway.
In conclusion, not a bad place, but nowhere near 4 stars. It didn't even compare to the 3 star places we stayed in immediately before and after.

We are a couple in our late thirties, we enjoy having wine with our meal and a few drinks after, but we weren't looking to go clubbing every night, so this suited us. We booked The President through Thomson and as I'm a Trip Advisor fiend, I had done some homework on the hotels in Viareggio before booking and we weren't disappointed.
The staff were very helpful, from the reception, to the waiting staff, to the maids and porter. Nothing was a problem.
The food was amazing, we paid £16.00 per night with Thomson to go half board and it was well worth it. The menu in the hotel stated 40 euro, so it was a great saving to pay in advance. We thought that we would go outside to eat at least a couple of nights, but when it came to it, the variety and freshness of the food in the hotel was second to none. The breakfast is continental, but there are many choices to suit all tastes, the breakfast service is on until 11 so if you are on half board, you don't need to eat out at all apart from the odd ice-cream!
We hired out bikes from the hotel (included with Thomson) and rode to the pine woods, Lido di Camiore and up and down the sea front. It's a great way to carry back your water from the local supermarket as all the bikes have large baskets.
The beaches were clean and well maintained, we only went to Beach Irene and the staff there were very helpful and pleasant.
We took trips with Thomson to Florence, Sienna and San Gimiagno which we loved.
All in all it was a fabulous introduction to Tuscany.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel President the last week of September/first of October. What a fantastic hotel - as all the previous reviewers have stated. All the hotel staff including waiters, reception and chambermaids were exceptionally friendly and helpful and a credit to the hotel.
We went with Thomsons and had the half-board option. The food was great. Breakfast buffet plentiful with lots of choice. Evening meal four courses waiter served which was excellent value with the Thomsons deal of £16 per day as opposed to the hotel's set charge of 40 Euros.
We took organised excursions to Florence, Lucca and Pisa and a wine tasting one which gave us the opportunity to travel further afield and see the beautiful countryside. We travelled around on the local buses along the coast to Lido di Camiore and Forte Dei Marmi as well as re-visiting Lucca a couple of times.
The Wednesday market at Forte Dei Marmi is well worth a visit with lots of stalls selling amongst other things great knitwear and leather goods.
