My husband and I recently spent three nights at the Hotel San Luca and our stay was truly one of the highlights of our trip. Located within the Medieval walled city of Spoleto, Hotel San Luca is within walking distance of fabulous restaurants and extraordinary shops. Unfortunately upon our check-in we discovered a major problem with our rental car company. Although we had a confirmed car reservation in hand, the company had no knowledge of our reservation and no cars available for rent. Given the language challenge, it was difficult communicating with the car agency by phone. Frederica and her staff went above and beyond to help us resolve the situation which truly could have ruined our stay in Spoleto. Since we were to board a cruise ship later that week in Nice a car or other suitable transportation was a must. Frederica helped us navigate the Italian train schedule and overall provided support during a difficult time. Our room was beautifully but simply appointed in a very classic Italian decor. We overlooked a wonderful courtyard full of potted olive trees and vibrant colored flowers. Thankfully the hotel was quiet and possessed an air of
civility not often found when traveling. The breakfast buffet offered every morning was more than substantial and the service absolutely impeccable. The staff was friendly and actually appeared to enjoy their jobs! Spoleto was the perfect Umbria destination but more than that, the Hotel San Luca was the perfect choice for a truly special holiday.

My husband and I spent three days in Spoleto where it rained throughout our stay. Nevertheless we have the most wonderful memories of Spoleto, largely due to our delightful stay at the Hotel San Luca. The staff at San Luca fully understand what good hospitality is: a warm welcome upon our arrival; helpful touristic information including train schedules to Perugia and Rome.; excellent restaurant suggestions (and bookings) for each of the three nights of our stay and a sumptuous spread of fresh juices and homemade baked goods for breakfast.. Our room was bright, clean and airy and the marble bathroom was luxurious. The public sitting areas are inviting and beautifully decorated. We were drawn to relax and spend time browsing the many magazines and journals and admiring the special collection of soup terrines that provide a homey atmosphere.
Hotel San Luca is the ideal base for exploring Umbria. We feel lucky to have spent time there and would love to return.

Entering through the old city gate on a busy late afternoon in early February, we immediatly pulled out of the traffic and quickly located a friendly policeman who directed us towards the San Luca. We exited the piazza on a short connecting road ( there is actually a sign here for the Hotel San Luca ) and followed the one-way perimeter road along the old city wall for a couple of minutes to the San Luca. Arriving, we were warmly greeted and directed to the adjoining enclosed parking garage.
We found our room very inviting with a large bed and a charming small balcony with a local view of the green and a modern , large, stylish bathroom.
While winter in old Spoleto is quiet, we found the town to be typically unique, beautiful, friendly and intriguing. The owners and staff were great. Federica was enthusiastic about helping us get oriented in town and made polite suggestions for walking about. We found the hotel ideally located for our rambles. There is a short climb uphill. I imagine it would not be a problem unless someone had an infirmity.... in which case the rest of Spoleto, or for that matter most of the Italian "hilltowns" will likely be impracticle for visiting.
The breakfast buffet at the hotel was very well presented in an attractive room adjacent to the enclosed garden courtyard where, I presume, warm season visitors may linger. We were attended by an impeccably gracious and light young man who was most generous with excellent cappacino's.
As part of a "winter package" at the San Luca, we were provided a superb meal at the Cantina di Corvi. This was a pleasant stroll from the hotel and was decidedly one of the very best meals we had in a month of modestly living it up in Italy.
Be sure and check postings for a performance at the nearby Teatro Nuevo, a splendid, intimate venue. We watched an absorbing opera with a wonderful cast and orchestra. The local folk were out in there winter finery , it was a memorable scene. We preceeded the opera with a light dinner at the great little chocleteria on the corner opposite the theatre. It provided the additional interest of watching various members of the cast and orchestra stopping by for stand-up service before continuing on to the theatre.
All in all, we can confidently reccomend the San Luca. A good value, good location, clean, friendly, well managed, good breakfast and Spoleto itself is a curious, charming city.

We spent 3 nights at Hotel San Luca, which is centrally located and close to the shopping area and the historic center. It is surrounded by exquisite restaurants. Upon arrival we were cordially greeted by the receptionist. Seeing that we had quite some luggage, he offered to upgrade us to a more spacious room (208) at no extra charge. It was well decorated with a garden view and the bathroom was also spacious and luxuriously tiled with marble. The breakfast room is impeccable next to the internal courtyard where the breakfast was always abundant, fresh and divine. To compliment the hotel the staff were all friendly, helpful and above all, spoke very good English.
We highly recommend it.
