Booked three nights here for three sets of travelers first week in July. The hotel is under renovation but we weren't told that before arrival. When you get there you have to carry your luggage up two flights of stairs. There is no "lobby" per se, there is a hall closet with a half door where they check you in. Proceeded to be taken to my room on the third floor via the world's smallest elevator. Down a dark hall to a dark and dreary room. The bed was like a piece of plywood, the shower door was broken, the toliet you had to pump with your foot. The room was so tiny there was about 12" on each side of the bed. I left my stuff there and went out to find a better place which I found several just a few blocks away. Of course, more money but it was worth every penny.
One set of friends stayed one night and their air conditioning was broken. In Rome in the summer, this means your room is over 90 degrees. What a way to ruin your whole next day!
The adverstised "breakfast" turned out to be a danish and a cup of coffee at a place several blocks away. The couple with the broken a/c checked out the next day, the third couple suffered through the experience.
Now the hotel won't give us refunds. I canceled my room on American Express online and it said $189 cancelation fee which I'm willing to pay. The hotel wants to keep the money for all three days, American Express prepaid them.
The couple that stayed one night prepaid through Expedia and are trying to get two nights refunded. The hotel won't respond to Expedia's phone calls and e-mails. Stay away from this place!!

Everything that has been said about this hotel is true. A great position –only blocks from the Termine Station and the Piazza Del Republica. As well it’s an easy walk to all the main sights, to catch the hop on, hop off buses and caf?’s and restaurants.
We arrived though to find that the hotel was suddenly under renovation – and luckily for us we arrived before the reception… and the lift moved from one long flight of stairs from the street – to three flights of stairs.
No other way to get your luggage up and down other than lugging it yourself. Perhaps a person doing this for clients would have been a service?
This also meant that the restaurant and bar was closed down too and arrangements had been made at a nice caf? down the street. The problem was it was not a full breakfast as was included in our booking but a continental and only a Cappuccino coffee was free – if you wanted a black coffee or Caf? Americano you had to pay? Don’t get that one at all.
Im sure these issues are temporary during the renovations – but the do affect your stay at the moment.
The room though was fantastic and a good size – larger than we expected and the photos already on this site are pretty accurate – although no mini bar or small fridge for cooling water etc… which would have been good. A great shower though and excellent air conditioning.
Would I stay here again? - Yes, though hopefully after Renovation Rescue is complete.

I have no problem with small rooms (it should be expected in Europe) but our room had an odd odour to it. Like it had been cleaned but the cleaning product they used was souring or something.
The room was verrry dated. I didn't expect anything fancy or super-modern but this was ridiculous. Wallpaper, curtains, chairs, and bedspread were all the exact same pattern... a pattern from the 1980's, and all of them were dusty.
The front desk was a looong flight of stairs from the street and there is no escalator or elevator (also, not odd for Europe but there is also nobody to help you get your luggage up the stairs). The toilet sometimes kept running (and don't expect help from the front desk), and you sometimes have to sit and wait (either in your room, or on the sagging sofa by the front desk) for a seat at breakfast because there aren't enough tables.

My wife and I left it a bit late to book for a long spring weekend in Rome, so it was triply lucky (a) that the Lirico had a room for us, (b) that its rate was well below the prices of some of the others we tried to book at, and (c) that it turned out so pleasantly that if we're ever lucky enough to revisit Rome I see no reason to stay anywhere else.
Its location struck us as just about ideal -- everything from the Vatican to the Villa Borghese and the Palatine Hill seemed just a short walk or walk-and-ride away -- and although it is so close to major streets we enjoyed quieter nights than we do in our flat in outer London.
From the receptionists to the breakfast waiter to the bed-maker, the staff were all excellently helpful and friendly, and our gross inability to speak Italian was never a handicap.
Everything in the hotel, from the front door up the stairs and via the lift to our room with its tall window opening into the sunshine, was agreeable, comfortable, accommodating, pleasant in decor and just generally Right. The same went for the breakfast room, which offered a very good start to each day. Our beds were comfortable, and the room and its en-suite bathroom were distinctly roomier than many others we've found ourselves in In Europe. (The one handicap was that the supply of hot water seemed to fade out as the hour got later, so the trick was to get your bathing done early. A small price to pay, we thought, considering everything else the Lirico offered.)
Judging by the breakfast room, the hotel was doing a brisk trade, yet we were never disturbed by fellow-guests -- in fact everything was so quiet that if it hadn't been for the breakfast room we might have imagined that we were almost the only people there.
Thanks partly to unexpectedly beautiful spring weather, our first visit to Rome was magically enjoyable, and the Lirico helped to make it so. I am very glad indeed that we were lucky enough to chance upon it, and strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay while visiting Rome.
