We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Although the rooms were spacious, I was concerned when I spotted a few ants around the mini bar. When I mentioned this at the desk, I was told that it was common and they would spray. The maid, who routinely spent no more than 10 minutes cleaning the room, didn't see anything. The next morning, there were considerably more ants. I again mentioned this to the front desk. They could not spray until his colleague came so we waited. Finally 2 hours later, the man sprayed with 2 squirts. We asked for more, and he gave it two more squirts and asked us to leave for 1/2 hour.
We were leaving the hotel at 3:30 am the next morning. When we got up, the place was swarming with hundreds of ants all over the floor. We dressed in the bathroom as that seemed to be the least infested room. The desk person said he was not in a position to compensate us. (We did try to pay earlier, but it wasn't allowed).

We stayed in this hotel as part of an overnight trip to Palermo from Catania. The hotel room for a family of 4 was very spacious and we had no problem with that. However we decided to eat in the restaurant that night as we had travelled a long way that day - catania-trapeni-palermo. We were a group of 9 people. What a disappointment. We were travelling with local Sicilians and they treated us like "foriegn tourists" who they could mess around as we would not be back. Firstly we chose the "chef's recommendations menu" (it did not state "menu turistica" and we know to avoid those). They totally messed up our order - multiple times as the waiter was too busy talking to other waiters and not giving us his full attention. The risotto milanese was undercooked - it was still at the stage restaurants pre-prepare risotto and inedible, so they can finish it quickly when it is ordered. It was a four course menu. They missed course 3 for one of us, and course 4 for all of us. They then proceeded to charge us for the total meal. When we queried this, my friend (a Sicilian) tried to hold a discussion with the manager about the quality of the meal and the appalling service. We will never stay here again, which is a shame as the hotel seemed very nice. If you choose to stay there, don't eat at the restaurant. We rely heavily on the reviews in Trip Adviser for all our accommodation when we travel overseas - which we do multiple times a year - and used it for feedback on all hotels we planned to stay in on our last 5 week trip to Italy and Asia. We felt so strongly about the poor service we received as "tourists" in this restaurant that we were determined to make sure other people were not caught out.

We returned last night from our 4 day trip to Palermo which we thoroughly enjoyed. We stayed at the Addaura Hotel and found the staff very helpful and friendly. Apart from their own Graffiti Restaurant, which was very good, they also recommended other places to eat locally. Our room had a balcony and overlooked the sea, it was quite adequately furnished (perhaps a little tired, in need of refreshing but very clean), had all the usual toileteries, hairdryer, tv, great value for money. The sea across from the hotel was quite rocky and not condusive to swimming but there is a lovely sandy beach at Mondello (only 1.5 kilometres away). We had a few swims in the wonderful warm water (even on the 10th Oct). Our trip was short and therefore we used taxies and the local bus to travel around, it was a relaxing break for us but if staying in the area for a longer period we would recommend hiring a car. The hop on hop off bus in Palermo is a good way to see the city in a day. It is probably better to visit on a weekday when there is more activity in the city. We visited on Sunday, everything was closed and not much of an atmosphere. Restaurant 59 across from the Teatro Massimo was really lovely for lunch. We ate out each day, lunch and dinner and found all the restaurants were terrific and so reasonable. We would certainly recommend the Addaura, (forgot to mention it is only 25 minutes from the airport and the hotel has an arrangement with a local taxi firm where the fares are almost half the price).

We travelled to Palermo (Siciliy) with our family (4 adults + 1 child) and stayed at the Hotel Addaura. The rooms are very basic (almost stark), but clean with a television and a view of the ocean through plenty of a glass windows. The room service was good and efficient. However it was discouraging to see overflowing garbage bins right outside of your window. In order to enjoy the view of the ocean, one has to mentally block out the lower 1/3rd of one's view. Look straight, but don't look down !! The hotel overlooks the main road and the sea; a quick landscaping job sponsored by the hotel and neighboring businesses would help. The art on the walls was of a local sicilian theme, which was nice - but the starkness of the walls in the room, as well as color combination of the room / furniture prevented the place from looking and feeling upscale.
The reception spoke very good english (quite uncommon in Sicily, from what we saw) which was a relief and did enable us to get help for touring around the area. The hotel's restaurant "Graffiti" was a disaster - the food was terrible and the waiter could not understand a word of what we were saying. The only saving grace was that there were enough screw ups to make one feel as though they living in Fawlty Towers (80's British Comedy). Vegetarians beware - as ingedients are not properly explained to diners !! Also, food quality was very low, and it was a saving grace that we had only the bed and breakfast plan. Else, we'd have been stuck eating in this place for all 3 nights of our stay.
The pool timings were inconvenient. Touring sights and sounds of Palermo would bring us back to the hotel ~6pm, by which time the pool was closed. Other catches - pay for a towel as well as a deck chair - seems to be the norm in Italy, but really seems unethical.
Parking for your car is available for 10 bucks a night, but there was plenty of free street parking available as well. Really, a matter of your preference. All said and done, it was a comfortable stay - but not a memorable one. In terms of value for money, I think the hotel was very good, with reasonably priced rooms and a decent breakfast.
End of Hotel Addaura review.
General Note of CAUTION:
DO NOT, I REPEAT - ABSOLUTELY DON'T - dine at a restaurant in Mondello (just adjacent to Addaura) called "Trattoria Da Calogero". The tout waiting to lure you in promises all kinds of food, including vegetarian friendly stuff - but the bugger has no freakin' clue of what is being served inside. There was NO MENU in this restaurant, and no pricing !! Waiters were only allowed to serve water, whilst the rest of the diner's needs (including cutlery, bread, butter) had to be routed through a gaudily dressed man with long hair and a beard. I think this guy is the owner of this fine establishment. He prentended to be very strict and did not make any exceptions for us. We ordered mussles and were served predominantly empty shells !!! The place was way too loud, people smoking straight on our faces including our son's. We could not wait to get out of there. Again, this restaurant was called Trattoria Da Calogero -on Mondello Beach. Do NOT eat there.

The hotel Addaura is a lovely hotel near Mondello. I had read some bad reviews about the hotel and wasn't keen on staying there but as every other hotel in Mondello was booked out I had no choice. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the hotel was superb. It has a fantastic restaurant which was very affordable, the menu even had a section for vegetarians. The pool and sunbathing area was very nice and it was quiet enough in June. The hotel offers both rooms and apartments which makes it nice for both families and singles. There isn't really anything to do in the hotel in the evening as the bar is very small but just down the road from the hotel is a lovely bar/pizzeria which I would recommend. The Addaura hotel is a great place for a relaxing break, however it can get a little nosiy at night but that seems to calm down by midnight. I'd definately recommend this hotel and I dont think it deserves the bad ratings it has recieved previously.
