Just got back from a trip to Europe in which my wife and I stayed at the Hotel U Prince.
For anybody who's going to Prague, this hotel couldnt have been more well situated. It's a five star hotel right in the middle of the Old City, facing the famous clock tower. The nearest metro station is about 3 blocks away.
We asked for a double room facing the back because at night, the square can get very loud. The room with a king size bed was very big and comfortable.
If you have read all the reviews on this hotel, many of them mention the shower. Well, I cannot emphasize this enough. Even though, the bathroom is big with marble, the biggest problem it has is the lack of a shower curtain. Add this to the fact that the bathtub is not that big, and you can make a real mess when taking a shower. Everything gets wet. It can get very annoying.
Probably the best part of this hotel is the terrace restaurant/bar that they have on the top floor. You must go up there and see the view of Prague and the rooftops. It is so worth it.

Right in the heart of Prague (main square), stunning building, KSC 8000 per night (approx. EUR 300)./ What could possibly go wrong?
Everything is the answer.
My business partner and I reserved a bi-level suite with twin beds and early check-in. On arrival (8 a.m.), after exhausting journey, we were greeted by a bored receptionist who pretended not to notice us. Of course, there was "no evidence" (so she claimed) of early check-in info.
Finally, after sort of argument (fortunately, I speak Czech), we were given our bedroom. As it turned out, it was only laziness (and probably biterness) of the receptionist that caused problems as the room was not occupied on the previous night and was ready to go.
Imagine bi-level suite for EUR 300. It should be absolutely fantastic, shouldn't it? Another dissapointment. Musty smell, bit of mould in the bathroom and not even close to decent size (approx. 25 sqm). Bi-level means that you sleep on the rooftop of your bathroom. Of course, there was no twin beds, so we had to share a queen size double. Difficult for two men!
Staff were generally rude there. Maids would pass you in the corridor and would not even say "good morning" (in hotel, which wants to be a 5-star property. Ha ha).
After all that, we decided not to try breakfast.
My advice: forget "U Prince". Sleep in a tent. More fun and you'll save 300 euros. However, if you're still willing to spend that amount of money on a hotel in Prague, go to Four Seasons. No dissapointments there.

Having stayed in a Wenceslas Square hotel on a previous trip the U Prince was a lovely experience. Our room was on the 3rd floor corner and gave a great view of the very festive square below. The rooms were adequate ( well furnished, very clean, nice bathrooms) but were very warm...even for a czech winter. The breakfast was a little disapointing but was still more than we would have on a normal morning, so no big deal really. Overall the location, the atmosphere and the hot chocolate on the roof terrace would convince me to return.

I stayed here with a friend and her parents in March.
The location is amazing.. right in the old town square and everywhere is accessible on foot.
We had a standard twin room on the top floor which had a beamed ceiling and lovely comfy beds. The bathroom was a fair size but there is no shower curtain so you have to sit in the bath to shower unless you want to flood the entire room!!
My friends parents had a junior suite which had a lounge area and bathroom on the lower level (again no shower curtain) and a massive squishy bed on a mezzanine level. Beware.. the wooden stairs leading to the mezzanine are highly polished and after a few cocktails on the rooftop terrace could be hazardous!!!
The roof top terrace is well worth a visit especially at night when the city spires are lit up and the city takes on a fairytale appearance ( or was that the Mojitos!!) Drinks and eats are mega expensive both on the terrace and in the restaurant/bar downstairs and the staff are grumpy and humourless but then this was fairly widespread not only in the bars and restaurants but in the shops as well. BEWARE.. take lots of small denom notes as they don't readily give you change when you pay your bill and check your bill as on several occasions we were charged for items we didnt have.
Breakfasts were self service buffets and the choice available was adequate.
Prague is a truely beautiful city and we covered as much as we possibly could in the 3 days we were there.
I would have stayed at the U Prince again had it not been for the driver of the car the hotel reception arranged for our return to the airport who shamelessly ripped us off, charging us 800czk compared to the 480czk we paid on arrival for the very same journey so DONT ASK RECEPTION FOR A CAR TO THE AIRPORT !!!!
All in all I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Prague to my friends and family for a city break but it isnt the cheapest by far and when the Euro is introduced in 2012 its only going to get worse.
