During my trip to the Lexington Hyatt it appeared they were beginning a renovation process. If so, it's a good thing. This hotel barely met the base standard for a Hyatt or similar chain.
The folks at the front desk were courteous, but not what I'd call warm. I had a quick check in and then went to my room. When I got of the elevator I was greeted by old, stained carpet and missing baseboards.
When I got to my room, I was surprised by the smell in the hall and my room. It wasn't super offensive but it did have the distinct smell of beer and cigarettes.
Inside the room the furnishings were nice and the bed was fairly comfortable. However, it was nearly as comfortable as the bed at some of the comparable chains.
The bathroom was the standard hotel bathroom. It had a granite countertop on the sink, and decent water pressure. There were plenty of towels and they were of acceptable quality. The soap and shampoo were far superior to what you'd get at a Hilton brand.
I did notice that the ceiling had been repainted to hide some water damage. This was partly because they hadn't done a good job covering it and partly because a hair had gotten stuck in the paint.
Who knows, maybe I had a bad room on a bad floor. In any case, I haven't stayed any where else in the city, but I might consider another spot. The exception is, of course, if you're going to an event at Rupp Arena. This hotel is connected, so it probably would be good if you're going to see a basketball game or something similar.

My family and friends were in town for a baseball clinic and I had reward points to use, so a free night. I thought this would be a great chance to try out the new rooms at the hyatt since I hadn't stayed there for 12 years due to nasty rooms and no up keep on a place fine enough to be called the hyatt. Check in was fine as was the new everything in the room. Bathrooms are very small, if you are on the pot and someone comes in, you could get your legs cut on the door that pushes you off into the floor. We went to a baseball game the night before the clinic, and got back late to the room, but went to bed the way most people in a hotel do at 11 P.M. , Thanks to our guests in room 420 we didn't sleep long, it was hard to get to sleep anyway with the out side noise, you can hear everything from the fourth floor . Now back to room 420, we had to call guest services on them twice before we seen nothing was going to be done, Front desk sent someone to their room but the noise didn't die down until it was time for us to get up. We took ouk shower and was going to give the kids a bath but the drain was stopped up, so my husband and I got to stand in the same dirty water. I hate I used my rewards for a free night at this party house thats has a new coat of paint and a bad cover up. I have been told theie is a new hotel going up downtown, I hope they learn how to deal with issues like this. I called to talk to a superviser and the bookkeeper for him took the message and said he already knew about what happened. and....................

We stayed one night last weekend to attend the Keith Urban concert at Rupp Arena. Location was great for that reason. Elevators were fast and the bed was comforable. However, we had six rooms, all on floor five, a smoking floor. Yuck, yuck, yuck. Our room was the worst in smell and we should have switched but thought it would get better when they brought the ozonator. Didn't make any difference in the world. Also, all of the rooms we had were not refurbished. It was like I traveled back in time to the '80s. Would I stay here again? Definitely if there were another event at Rupp and the price was right. I talked with another lady on our floor and she was equally disgusted by her room -- filthy carpet etc. and she paid $295 for the room! We were facing Triangle Park and heard sirens all night long. Those with the Hyatt atrium view were kept awake from the partying going on below in the bar. Very loud.

I accompanied my husband on a 4 nights stay at the Hyatt for a conference taking place in the Lexington Center. The hotel is advertising its April 2008 arrival of newly renovated rooms. Unfortunately, we received a room that was not yet renovated, but we found it to be sufficient.
The room was clean, the bed comfortable and we had a wonderful view of Triangle Park. Internet cost $10 per day and could be accessed by cable or wireless. It was reliable.
The cleaning staff was a bit inconsistent which was noticable to me since I was working from the hotel room during our stay. They didn't do much cleaning, but provided more toiletries and towels.
Check in and out went smoothly, but I will say the desk staff lacks a bit of Kentucky hospitality that we are used too. We find this at the Radisson downtown as well though.
The pool was being renovated, but they had a nice gym with a variety of equipment. There is a bar in the lobby and a kiosk with Starbucks coffee. The cafe serves nice lunches and there is also easy access to the food court in Rupp Arena/Lexington Center with fast food options and a Coffee Beanery.
Everything is within walking distance, many things by pedways, and I would highly suggest getting out of the hotel to enjoy Lexington's restaurants for meals and drinks. Alfalfa's, Cheapside, Sawyer's and the Bigg Blue Martini are just a few places around that are great and reasonable.
I'm sure the renovated rooms will be lovely, but we weren't disappointed with our room at all. We did get a conference rate of about $160 a night and I'd say this was a decent value for the location. Much more than that and I would consider it expensive for what you get, however, you are in a downtown area so I guess higher prices are to be expected, even in Lexington.

Our family just returned from a fun 3 night stay. We stayed very comfortably in the newly renovated Hyatt. We stayed in one of the brand new rooms and it was clean, neat, modern and very comfortable. The new large flat screen TV was appreciated by our teens. Local TV channels were HARD to find---the TV set up is designed to make you buy movies because you can't find the regular shows even if you're good with a remote. The view was great from the 15th floor and we never heard construction noise in other rooms that are under construction.
This Hyatt is in the middle of a 16 million dollar renovation, estimated to be completed by July. The gym and pool were less conveniently accessible during the transition. The pool was available at the Radison, a walk away through some winding interterior connections. The gym was being renovated but the equipment was fine, once you reached the gym accessible from an exterior entrance during the renovation. We encountered friendly staff throughout the stay. Great location for walking to activities downtown, shops and restaurants.
