I was in the Hyatt Regency for five days while in Indianapolis for a business meeting, taking the first two days for some sightseeing opportunities in a city with which I'm not familiar. My stay at the Hyatt was overall a nice stay but there were some issues that I encountered that made the stay less that it might otherwise have been.
The room was wonderful, the furniture was excellent, the bed and pillows were as comfortable as one could want, the air conditioning was effective, the water pressure was good, and the maid service was perfect. If the room itself were all that were being graded, this would be a top-notch review, excellent all the way. I heard comments by some attending a convention while I was there that the hotel had not been in the best of shape in the past. That has changed. I could not ask more comfort from the room.
Price: if you drive, add $20/day for self parking or $25/day for valet parking to your room price. If you use the internet, add $10/day for internet access. So whatever your quoted room price is, add at least $30 per day. Soft drink machines charge $2 for a 20oz drink and do not accept cash, only credit cards.
Check in and check our were quick and easy. My special request for my room was not honored, possibly due to the convention taking place. As usual, the luggage carts are reserved for bell service, so, unlike with less expensive hotels, I had to make several trips between my room and car to move my belongings.
PROBLEM 1 - There are insufficient elevators though they did not seem to be excessively slow. There was a small convention at the hotel (about 500 people they told me) over the weekend and the first couple of days of the week and the elevators were often jammed. Sometimes it was hard to get the elevators to move when the doors closed. Not only did I notice this, the convention attendees were regularly complaining about how long it took to get an elevator. The hotel staff used the passenger elevators for bell service and there were several wheelchair-bound convention attendees who were having trouble getting a place on the elevators. If the elevator service is inadequate with a small convention there, I cannot imagine how it would be with a larger one.
PROBLEM 2 - There is an adjacent mall with food court but the hours of the businesses was uneven. Nothing seemed to be open for breakfast on the weekend. After a couple of trips over there, which requires quite a walk, I quit going. There were plenty of nice restaurants in the block across the street from the hotel, so there were no problems at lunch or in the evenings. In the hotel lobby are a MacDonalds and Subway, neither of which seemed to have adequate staff to handle the demand of the small convention, even on the weekday mornings. The service at the MacDonald's rivaled any place that I have been for the worst I've seen. There is a very high priced restaurant in the hotel where breakfast can be obtained - but it is costly.
All in all, the stay was OK but the hotel needs a coffee bar and something needs to be done about the elevators. They were a significant enough problem to affect any decision to stay at this location in the future.

Another Bowden Review: Got this for $45 on priceline

You read correctly, two nights for $45 a night.
It's right downtown near the convention center across the street from the RCA dome. Lots of places to walk to, get dinner and drink a few beers. A very safe part of the city with lots to do. Clean area, lots of police patroling.
The hotel is large, and a big city hotel. The lobby is awesome, with a great bar and multiple places to eat. There is a mall connected to the hotel so you can shop and not go outside if the weather is bad. The Convention center is also connected.
The rooms are nice, albiet a little small. Comfortable beds and modern furniture.
The only draw back is you have to pay $18 to self park or $25 to valet. But it is worth it being downtown.
At $45 this was a steal.
Great location, nice decor

The location of this hotel is great--within walking distance to the canal district and many great restaurants. The rooms seemed very modern and well decorated while also very comfortable. The front desk staff was very helpful.

I was in Indy for dinner and a show with the kids. I priceline a room my offer was acceepted at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Indy for June 14, 2008. I was very pleased as I had recently stayed at a Hyatt Select south of Nashville which was fantastic. So, I get to the hotel and find out that in order to park I have to either self park for $18 or pay a valet for $25 for the night. I get to the room to look something up and the internet is $10.00 per day. I made a toll free telephone call and that was $1.00. Do you see a pattern? I hate supposedly "better" hotels that nickle and dime you to death. The building is very nice looking. Check out and check in are automated. I suppose to save on staffing and customer service. The rooms are small and almost spartan. Most hotels in the two star or better category have nicer rooms.
Next, I go to shower and the water that comes out in brown and cold. I call and they tell me that they are having an issue with the water. While I shave with this filthy water, my daughter trips and hits her face on a piece of furniture. I call to the front desk and ask for help and they say that they will send security and an EMT right away. 25 minutes later, I call down and tell them to cancel the EMT and that I would take my daughter to the hospital myself. They apologized and said that the person who took the call did not take note of what room I was calling from.
Maria from security then came up while I got ready to leave and she was as nice as she could be. She helped me find directions to the hospital and even had complimentary ice cream brought up for my kids by way of apology when we got back. Maria was also the only person that I had personal contact with during my entire stay.
I would not stay there again.

I was in Indianapolis for a conference for five days.
Location is great. Although I stayed in the summer, I'm sure a guest can especially appreciate the hotel in the winter since the hotel has a direct connection to the Circle Mall (tons of stores and restaurants) You never have to step foot outside. I didn't get to do much sightseeing.
Room is very nce. It is clean and well kept. There are no signs of aging so either everything is new or very well kept. Shower pressure is excellent! Bed is comfortable - but I can sleep on any kind of bed so you might take that with a grain of salt. The view is the best you can get in Indianapolis - I was on one of the higher floors and had a pretty view of the state capitol.
Service - everyone was very helpful. You don't have to check in at the self serve computer kiosk. In fact most people don't. As a testament to the staff--> my key malfunctioned a few times. By the third time I was upset. The clerk said that engineering would look at my lock, engineering came right away to accompany me to my room. But before I left the front desk another clerk asked if I had my key card by my cell phone----oops! I had them on top of each other in by purse! It was my fault the whole time but they were all very gracious about it.
Food-decent. Overpriced but again service was excellent during our conference and when I had room service.
There is a 24 hour gym with treadmills and ellipticals that have tv's built in. That is a great feature. There is a small pool and jacuzzi.
The BIG CON is that they do charge for every little thing-parking($18/day I think), internet ($10/day), business center ($15/15min for computer use in the center).
