Wanted to save the stress of driving in and out for the 4th, so looked on-line and found a good price at the Hyatt. There was my wife, my son 3 and myself. On the plus side, they have a great gym! I went there every morning and really felt it was first class. The pool, although we didn't use it, was kind of small for as much traffic as it was getting. I could see it from my room and at times it appeared very crowded (there was a big conference in town for the 4th, go figure). We did availed ourself of the buffet breakfast one morning. It was 20 a piece for the adults. The selection was limited and the bacon, while looking incredible, tasted like rubber. For a family with a young child and a primarily spanish speaking wife, the TV selection was very limited, as in no spanish channel and only one disney channel for kids. The room itself was nicely appointed and the bed was firm. It was a great sleep! It was a great location for getting to the Capital concert on the 4th and going to Union Station for food, transportation and a movie. It wasn't the best place for trying to walk to the mall. As for the construction, it definately was a mess in the lobby area and at times made entry/exiting a challenge. In the end, I would say that what we paid was fair, but if we weren't able to get the special rate, I'm not sure I would have felt the same.

This hotel is currently undergoing a major remodel which will supposedly be finished some time in September. Naturally, no mention is made of this on their website. Currently (mid July) the place is a mess. It is a disservice to their customers to even have it open. After entering, we had no idea where the reception was and there was no signage that we could see. We finally flagged down an employee before being directed down a stairs and around a corner. The bars and restaurants are all closed except for a really pathetic makeshift one on the 11th floor in a ballroom. No way was I going to eat there as who knows WHERE the kitchen even was????
We chose to stay on the 11th "Regency" floor for the private lounge, perks. We requested a quiet room. Since I could hear my neighbors alarm clock go off, I'd hate to have a nonquiet room! The private lounge was the one bright spot in the entire experience. The evening appetizers were fabulous, enough for a dinner. No wine but you could order from the "bar" next door in the ballroom. Our "regency" room was supposed to have bathrobes. No bathrobes. I called (another hassle at 10 pm no one needs) was transferred, no one answered, called again, same thing, gave up. They advertise the Regency floor as having wifi (one of the reasons I chose a room there), Sure they do if you pay for it! It's just a tmobile hotspot! So what!
We have several reservations in the upcoming months at this property and I am making it a top priority to find someplace else! Anywhere else! This property is NOT worth the price! It shouldn't even be "serving" guests at this time.

I stayed at the Hyatt for one night and found the rooms to be great! I loved the Ipod clock, that allows you to charge your Ipod. That was a very nice touch. Also I LOVED the beds! They were so comfortable I thought I was at home. I think the best part though were the bathrooms. The shower is beautiful and the water pressure is great! I would stay again, but after construction. I can tell Its going to be even better when they are done. They even have a cute little gift shop to buy snacks, postcards, and souveners. I wouldn't pay over $200 again though until construction is done. Then it will be worth it. Although the many complaints I have read on construction I think this hotel is VERY NICE, other than that. I look forward to staying at Hyatts in the future.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill recently. It is undergoing considerable construction which makes things seem a bit jumbled.
The lounge/breakfast buffet on the 11th floor was actually pretty nice but the view of the Capitol is now obstructed by new construction going on next door. The buffet is pricey but there is plenty to eat. If you can afford it by all means go for it. At night the bar was crowded, the wait staff was great but the snack mix from the bar was quite stale. The bar is jammed into a corner making it hard for patrons and staff to move about comfortably. The staff working the front of the building were polite and efficient in terms of helping you load and unload, getting cabs within seconds, and in terms of information about the area.
The hallways and rooms of the hotel are fairly dark, dimly lit. The bathrooms are fairly nice though our sink was loose. Our room smelled a bit strange like humidity or mold when we first arrive. Some hotels now use products that have little or no odor for cleaning leaving the bathroom areas to smell like the industrial paper towels used to clean the bathroom a rather unpleasant, sour smell. I picked up on that smell in our bath so it could be as a result of being more "green" or perhaps some other reason but it wasn't pleasant upon arrival. This hotel does not provide free wireless internet in its rooms something that many cheaper hotels now provide for free.
I hope that some of the construction involves an upgrade of the decor. The light fixtures in the hallways look like retro lampshades from 1950s or 1960s floor lamps turned upside down and bolted to lights in the hallways.
To its credit the hotel is close to many of the museums and tourist attractions of Capitol Hill. It is a bit of a walk to any decent restaurant from there.
We requested a move to a new room because of our problems with our room. They agreed to move us to a room higher up the next day during our three day stay. Needless to say we got great excuses the next day after they did not move us.
The price was OK for being on "The Hill" but I will not be staying there again when I return. I am a little disappointed in Hyatt. I expected better.

I stayed at this hotel on business for 3 nights. First of all, the hotel did NOT tell me that there was going to be construction going on everywhere, and I booked FAR in advance. The first room we (my partner and I) went to on the 11th floor had a NON working air conditioner. When we asked to switch rooms, they said they would send an "electrician" instead. Two people come up to look at it, and came to the conclusion "these kind of air conditioners just are not that powerful." So, does that mean it's broken, or not??! In any case, we moved to another room on the 11th floor (highest floor). Big mistake. Becaues of construction, the restaurant was moved to the 11th floor, so no matter what time of day it was, the 11th floor smelled like food, and not in a good way. Parking is also $41/day. Yes, that's $41. Union station metro is "near" but it is a looong three blocks. There are no good restaurants near by, nor stores. It is not a fun place to stay if you're coming as a tourist. It's not good for business travelers either. The organization I was attending a conference for had n dinner event planned , and the hotel failed to tell us that another event was taking place in that same room the minute we were done. It is fine that they booked something after us, but a little notice would have been nice. People from the next event started showing up (around 10pm) before we were even finished. Another annoyance, there is NO bottled water in the rooms or the vending machines on the floors....so I guess you can call room service, but what a HASSLE just to get some water.
