Okay.....so this is a good one. My wife is 4 months pregnant and we planned to go to Cancun for a final trip before our lives change dramatically. Upon arrival at the Hyatt Caribe ($58 cab ride from the airport which I thought was a bit ridiculous) we were greeted by a wonderful doorman. We went in to check in and when asked if we could recieve an upgrade (I am a Hyatt gold memeber and AMEX platinum card holder) the guy behind the desk looked at me like I had 3 heads. He then proceeded to tell us that we could upgrade to the next step for an additional $200 per night. After I decided against that and we proceeded with check in, the young lady behind the counter told us that the air conditioner was broken in the entire hotel and probably won't be fixed for a couple hours. At this point we decided that we weren't going to take a chance. When we told the desk clerk (Efrain) that we would like to cancel our reservation he had the audacity to offer us a free breakfast! I looked at him and said what about a room upgrade and his reply was "$200". We laughed at him and proceeded to cancel our reservation. Thank god for the great benefits of American Express for refunding our money since we booked it through them. On our way out we ran into a nice couple from Dallas and the man was sweating profusely. They told us that the air conditioning had been out since noon the day before which would make this about 26 hours with no A/C. He did mention the free breakfast which made me chuckle. We thankfully got out of there and ended up at ME (not all that great but at least has a/c). For the rest of those people that are literally "sweating it out", if the Hyatt doesn't comp them for the nights where they had to sleep in the heat and humidity, that corporation should be very ashamed of bearing the name Hyatt. Efrain should keep the breakfasts for himself and step up like a true customer service rep.

Yes, I read all of the mixed reviews before choosing to stay at this hotel. The reviews varied from "Loved it" to "I would never go back" so I decided to make up my own mind. I am writing this review so you don't make the mistake of choosing this hotel and having one of the worst vacations of your lifetime!
We booked our vacation online through travelocity.com. We booked 2 rooms / 1 for our family and 1 for my husband's parents. When we arrived, we were told that neither of our rooms were ready and to come back in 2 hours. So, we decided to grab a bite to eat. The food in their cafe was extremely overpriced and bordered on disgusting.
When we returned to the reception desk, we decided to request an upgrade to rooms in the newer building since we had to wait 2 hours to check-in. We were not offered a free upgrade and we were informed it would be an additional $50 per room / per night. We decided we would spend the extra money for the newer building / rooms in the Deluxe Beachfront as we had heard that the main building was older and noisy.
The 2 rooms we were given had a partial view of the ocean and overlooked another building to our right that was under construction all day long. At first glance, the rooms appeared to be clean. It wasn't until we went to take a shower that we realized how dirty they were. The showers were filthy and the handle to turn the water on and off didn't work. The drain was stopped up and the water overflowed out of the shower. We found a condom in the drawer by the bed!!!! (Thank god it was in its packaging - but still disgusting). The air conditioning didn't work in my mother-in-law and father-in-law's room.
We of course approached the front desk and asked for new rooms. They were "annoyed" but after realizing we weren't going away they switched us to 2 other rooms on the same floor. Yes, it gets worse. The 2nd rooms they gave us had bugs in both of them. They were little bugs that looked like fleas. They were in the bathrooms in both rooms and in the beds. When we went back down to the front desk we were told that these were "normal" in Cancun and there was nothing they could do about them.
We spoke with the manager of this hotel several times as well as the concierge and although they listened, they didn't seem to care and did nothing at all to make our visit more enjoyable. The customer service is very poor and it amazes me that this hotel has the "Hyatt" name and receives a 4 star rating.
I'm sure you are thinking we must be extremely difficult people to please after reading this, but the truth is we are very laid back and have 2 small children and we were really looking forward to a relaxing vacation at this hotel. The beach was closed the entire time we were there (6 days), the pools were average, the grounds were clean and kept up, but the overall experience was a 1 out of 10. Also, don't be fooled by the reviews that say it's not noisy at night. We were in the furthest building from the nightclub across the street "Basic" and you could hear the music / songs all night long. The only way to sleep was to keep the sliding door open to the ocean so the waves drowned out the music.
Cancun was very beautiful and we truly enjoyed our visits to Tulum, Xcaret, and Isla Mujeres. We will definitely come back, but will never stay at this hotel again.
