Beautiful hotel, foyer area is nothing short of palatial.
Rooms very comfortable with two big singles or a king size bed and views overlooking the Nile (and possibly the Pyramids if you're lucky!)
Food was excellent, wide choice of restaurants catering for all, some open 24 hours a day for the midnight-munchies!
Staff were all very friendly, although their English was not great in many cases but you get by :)
Pyramids around 30 minute drive away (in good traffic but, hey, this is Cairo right?!) a must-see if never been.
Many boat trips up and down the Nile, very nice in the evening to enjoy the belly dancers and buffet dinner.

The hotel is beautiful and the location lovely. However, since the alcohol ban the restaurants have been deserted and some have closed. Tourists who expect to have an occasional drink or wine with their dinner are out of luck, Next door is a noisy, rather shoddy Hard Rock Cafe that serves beer and inferior wines. Across a busy road is the Four Seasons that has wildly overpriced wines (unless you drink Egyptian wines - very ordinary), if you want any French wines expect to pay several times Paris prices. The Intercontinental, also nearby, is a better deal, will stay there next time. Bye bye Hyatt.

if like me you think that the grand hyatt has this image of exceeding expectations, well then u are completely wrong about this one. this will fall below the expectations of a 3* anywhere in the world.!
i shall start of with the negatives first.
no coffee/tea making facilities?..5* dont think so
3rd extra bed in room ..the most uncomfortable and centyr old low thing.
old carpet with stains, smoke and spillages.
showers had mould all over it. the most cheapest toilitries iv seen, iv stayed at 3* hotel with something better than that disgusting stuff!
too many local arabs- i take it this hotel is for the affulent arabs, who come here to relax(more like shout scream and smoke left right and centre)
even the niole vioew rooms/balcony was a right state dangerous to go outside the balcony, nothing what u would expect.
watch out for the extras charges at breakfast and check in(always question them)
the galleria (shopping centre)well just designer labels if u can afford, and nothing more.
the egyptian pound against the uk pound is supposed to be good..but again you will pay what you pay here if not more.for tours food. i foun d the hard rock cafe next doror deare than the uK.
also as a muslim something else i found that this place should know better of. it says that if u ask at reception for a prayer mat you will get on? but do you get one, they do not even know what it is!!!also going to mosques etc else where in the muslim world are places of worship for god and should not have charges for entering in them..(though the way they manage is by having a donation box, which more or less everyone contributes...but what is happeneing in this country is completely wrong)
everyone asks money from you if you want anything done, even if they do not get it done for you. but simply refuse if you do not wish to give it to the person.
also the revolving restaurant, well they will not let you enter it, i mean why all the security for?especially paid guests at the hotel, the menu is french(highy overpiced food) so we did not get to see what that looked like.
the only good thing is (well if like me never been to a so called 5*, is the grand lobby, and many expensive restaurants.)i mean the lobby is the only good thing about this whole place nothing inside.
the own cruise boat is good - but be carefull of the food this is where we got food poisioning!!
staff at the concierge are helpfull but overall cairo is a place that is full of smoke unhelpful people.
too be honest i do not know what ius the best place for toursist i can recommend, marriott, or by giza near the pyramids. thsi place is for those rich affulent arabs.you find it every one talks to you in arab!
well grand hyatt you certainly need to polish this one up.not a 5* and all that info is misleading.just for a 5* i expected so much more have stayed in many 3* hotels with much better service.

From the time I checked in from the time I checked out, there were problems. (1) The room as small and old. Stained carpet, an old extra bed with terrible mattress. (2) No facilities to make your own coffee or tea; so I had to pay EGP 11 for hot water. (3) The bathroom wasn't cleaned properly. The amenities were the cheapest in town. (4) although it was a no smoking room, i could smell smoke every morning at 6 am and night coming from the aircon. they sent people to fix it, and it never worked. (5) the swimming pool is ok although the towels and chairs must be at least from 100 BC. The only good thing is the Food Court managed by the same hotel, so you can have the a pizza for EGP 35 at the Food Court and the same pizza for EGP 70 only 50 meters away.. so your choice.
There is nothing around this hotel, only Hard Rock Cafe.. so not convenient if you want to go for a walk. In short, never again!
BTW, I'm Gold Hyatt Passport member - no difference whatsoever
