Something no one else has mentioned: if you collect HHonors points (and if you stay in any Hilton family hotels, you should), this is a great place to cash some in. It's only 20K points for a free night, which would otherwise cost you around $135 with any discount. At USA Hamptons, it would cost you 25K-30K points for a similar room that goes for around $100.
(We Canadians continue to be charged significantly more than Americans for identical things ranging from greeting cards and books to electronics to clothes to cars. Add hotels to that list.)
As we had only enough points for one free night, we paid for three at the weekend rate and took the higher-priced mid-week day for free. As our king room was in a higher grade than the points paid for, we should theoretically have changed rooms for the freebie. However, reception took care of it and let us keep the better room.
Another important note: this hotel went non-smoking only at the beginning of 2008. The top floor (5th), where our room was, had formerly been smoking. Six months later, my wife could still smell the leftover stench, though it was minor and tolerable. But why tolerate? When we mentioned it to reception, they happily moved us to an identical room on the ground floor, which had always been non-smoking. Problem cheerily solved.
Many hotels have converted small rooms into breakfast areas, so there's never enough room to sit when the place is busy. Here, there were always plenty of places to sit. (The room is also used as a pub weekday evenings.) The attendants were always busy replenishing supplies and cleaning up. In our four breakfasts we never saw anything run low or any mess left uncleaned.
Like others, we liked the secure underground parking, large rooms and good soundproofing. I don't think I'd like to be here without a car, although there were always taxis hanging around outside, and the money saved by not staying downtown would probably pay for them many times over.
Ottawa has changed immensely in the two decades or so since we were last here. We will certainly return and will certainly stay at the Hampton Inn again.

Stayed three nights in late May 2008.
The Good:
+ Good price (especially with AAA rate) relative to Parliament Hill or Byward Market hotels
+ Convenient, quiet location with underground parking
+ Large spacious room
+ Very clean facility overall
+ Good breakfast buffet
+ Comfortable mattress
The Bad:
+ Spotty wireless Internet
+ Industrial grade tissue & toilet paper (couldn't they have bought a better quality generic brand?)
+ Very weak pillows - almost no support provided

Exactly what previous reviewers have written. This chain has set a high standard of excellence at a reasonable price and delivers again in Ottawa. Granted the location is not downtown, but the distance is not great and the amenities more than make up for the location.
Large, clean rooms, the biggest bathroom I've ever had in a moderately priced hotel and excellent service from all the staff.
Will be back for Winterlude again next year!

The hotel was extremely clean, the staff was very welcoming and friendly. the free continental breakfast was fabulous, great hot and cold spread. The room size was very large and comfortable. The pool and hot tub were very welI maintained and warm and clean. We have stayed at a lot of hotels in the last few years and this has to be one of the best. I would highly recommend this hotel.
