Stayed here for 4 nights and found the rooms exceptionally nice. Clean, spacious. Nice quilts on the Kingsize beds. Silk flower arrangements on the desk area (nice touch). Toiletries replenished daily. Breakfast in the lobby fresh and quickly replenished by the friendly staff.
Small outside pool area with plenty of beds and chairs (but the water was pretty cold!!). Useful laundry area (chargeable, but only a couple of dollars) situated near to the pool so you could sunbath and do your laundry!!
Only criticism was the road noise. We were on the roadside of the building and the traffic was constant day and night. The windows were so badly fitted that it was noisy, but it didn't spoil our stay.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

This is an older property that has had the rooms updated recently. The furniture, bedding and carpeting are all fairly new.
Surprisingly in the renovation some of the details were left out such as updating doors and other hardware, which would have vastly improved the quality of the property.
I would have no hesitations of returning to this property while traveling for business. Clean rooms and a friendly staff make this an acceptable Hampton Inn.

We loved our stay at this hotel. It was quiet at night, the room was clean, and the breakfast was always fresh and delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well. If we ever make it back to Springfield we will definitely stay at this Hampton again!

We stopped for one night at the Hampton Inn, Springfield, Il. The Hampton Inn is our chain of choice when on the road. It is usually very comfortable, quiet and a nice breakfast. This Hampton Inn was no exception. The room was very clean and we were told that the hotel had been recently refurbished and you could tell. I would highly recommend this Hampton Inn

Good points and bad points, but I'll keep coming back

I’ve stayed at this hotel an average of once a month or so for the last several years (all business trips), maybe 30 stays or so altogether, so obviously I like it well enough to keep coming back... although like any hotel, it has its good points and bad points.
Positives:
- It’s in a good location on the SE side of town, with many restaurants, both sit-down and fast-food, in walking distance. It’s also just east of a little residential neighborhood that is pleasant to jog in. I keep coming back here mainly because of how convenient it is to get here and how easy it is to pick up dinner with just a short walk from the hotel.
- The breakfast buffet is well equipped, with a large variety, and typically kept well stocked.
- Occasionally, if you check in early enough, you will find yummy cookies. :-)
- There are free USA Todays available all day (not just in the morning at your room).
- There is free high-speed internet access in the rooms, which usually works, although not always.
- Rooms are typically kept quite clean.
- I find the beds to be very comfortable.
- Most of the beds have two good reading lights on either side.
- There’s excellent hot water and good pressure, even on the 4th-floor rooms.
- I’ve never heard any street noise from my room.
Negatives:
- The hotel is very popular with tour groups, especially in spring when what seems like every school in Illinois does its obligatory field trip to Springfield. If large packs of kids running down the halls unsupervised isn’t your thing, you might want to inquire upon booking as to whether any school groups are scheduled to be there during your stay. At those times you also want to avoid any rooms near the pool, as even in your room you can hear the shrieks every time the pool-room door opens and closes, which is often if there are school groups.
- Most of the rooms have great air conditioning, but I’ve stayed in a few in this hotel where it was barely functioning. Also, the halls can get quite hot.
- If you don’t smoke, be sure to avoid the smoking rooms, which I find nearly unbearable. The staff also like to smoke in the stairwells and vestibules between the halls and the outside.
- The quality of staff is variable. Most are competent, friendly, and want to please, but occasionally you’ll get one who just doesn’t care or is even argumentative (I had one argue with me once when I asked him please not to refer to me loudly by my name while I was checking in – “But that just shows I’m friendly!”).
- The fitness room is small and usually overheated, and contains out-of-date equipment that doesn’t all function properly (and not very much of it – one treadmill, one elliptical trainer, one bike, and one stair climber;). Also, its auto-lock, which is supposed to unlock at 6 AM, rarely does, and you have to go find someone to open it. The staff has said they’ve been working on the problem, but it’s persisted now for several of my stays. The hotel is currently undergoing renovation, and I hope the fitness center will be included in this.
In summary, I’ll keep coming back here, but I’m hoping the current renovation will address problems such as the air conditioning and the condition of the fitness center. Nevertheless, for an inexpensive hotel in Springfield, you could do worse than this Hampton.
