After making reservations at another hotel at a considerably higher room rate, we were directed to the Hampton Inn by a recommendation from a helpful person at the Lackland booking office. Yes it was 3 miles farther, but the rate was 40% less and we weren't planning on staying in the room all that much anyway. Good choice to switch.
The room was a little small (not Hong Kong small mind you, but definitely small for Texas) but in pretty good condition. The location was quite good - easy access to and from I410, and a variety of restaurants nearby. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was a little on the lax side, but not enough to warrant a full-blown complaint.
Suggestions for hotel: 1) Improve public Internet access, or limit its use to allow people to get online and take care of the necessities (airline check-in for instance). 2) Maybe a little more quality control and checking up on the housekeeping staff.
All in all, though, a pretty good deal for the price we got.

I will stay at this Hanpton EVERYTIME I stay in San Antonio. The front desk staff was just great. While I was there I noticed the breakfast lady changed daily when I asked they were filling in for the regular lady and they did a great job.
I needed some extra towels and the girl at the desk was alone and I had to wait until the next shift came in. Unlike most other hotels I've stayed at I was not forgotten about. That really made a difference.
I have stayed at Hampton's all over the state and this was not the newest one but the staff really made a big difference in my choice where I will stay the next time.
I will also advise if you don't like children this is not the hotel for you I had a lot of company for my two small children.
The only bad thing I have to say is the breakfast area was a little small. I loved my stay I will return!

There was construction/renovations going on at this hotel and that was annoying. The workers left their trash out (empty drink bottles, pizza boxes, etc.) in the hallway - I noticed some of the same trash multiple days. The vending machines didn't work.
The first room I went to was not the room type I had requested. The bathroom wasn't the cleanest (there was hair everywhere!).
The second room was better than the first, but the bathroom still looked like it hadn't been given a real clean recently (there was evidence that I won't go into). There was also hair in several places. My bathroom was not cleaned once while I was there - I'm not sure if that's the policy, but given all of the great claims they made in the literature in the room I found it fascinating that I would need to make an extra call to the front desk to get the bathroom cleaned thoroughly.
Will not stay here again…

Our family of 4 stayed at this hotel in early November. We have stayed at many Hampton Inns across the U.S., and have typically been very pleased. However, this particular one was not up to Hampton standards.
The rooms were small, as all the reviews suggested. No issues with this. However, the toilet in our room was dirty when we first arrived. The bathtub faucet leaked and the tub did not drain well at all. Also, our room was a bit stuffy. Our room was at the end of the hall, so perhaps the ventilation was poor.
On a positive note, the staff was very friendly. I had my young child with me at breakfast, and one of the staff helped me by bringing my food to a table for me. She also served us juice & milk so that I would not have to return to the breakfast area with my young child (my hands were full).
