Pleasantly surprised how clean the facilities were and the staff all had smiles on their faces and demonstrated they had pride in their work assignments. We really felt welcome. Checked into a nonsmoking room with no stale smoke odor and the entire room was very clean and well kept. The hot breakfast in the morning was well worth the night stay. I would recommend the Hampton in Gaylord, MI, anytime.

Overpriced for what you get.
cons:
Shower rods hanging off the walls.
No in room fridges even in jacuzzi suites.
Rather murky water in the pool.
Kids running up and down the halls all night.
Breakfast consisted of bisquets and gravy?
Pool towels the size of a bathmat,.
Styrofoam coffee cups.
pros:
Restaurants and shopping within walking distance.
Made our trip worry free!

Stayed at the hotel while on a ski trip to Boyne Mtn. Great place to stay. The rooms were clean, the service was awesome, and the convenience to the Walmart and restaurants was fabulous. If in town, stop at the Mexican restaurant 1 mi. east of the hotel. It was great! Close to the slopes as well...Re-booked for next ski trip in Feb...Overall a great stay.

This hotel is acceptable for a one-night stay. However, if you plan to spend more than one night in the area or much time there in the daylight, this is probably not your best choice. The hotel looked great from the outside. The lobby was in fairly good shape as well. However, the hallways and the room itself were in obvious disrepair. The carpeting was old and worn, the shower curtain rod was barely hanging from its screws, the drapes were left over from the late 70's, the bathroom was dingy and dark, and the furniture was bulky and outdated. The bed itself was surprisingly ok. It had clearly been updated with the nation-wide Hampton bedding overhauls.
The front desk clerk was very warm and friendly. In fact, she was so nice that I almost feel guilty saying bad things about the place.
There are a few dining options nearby. There is a Bob Evans that shares a parking lot with the hotel and a Ruby Tuesdays in walking distance. The "Historic" Sugar Bowl Restaurant (in town- approx 1 mile away) is not worth the trip. The food was mediocre and the atmosphere was creepy. The town itself is very quaint and I'm sure there have to be better dining options. Ask a local for recommendations.

Gaylord has just opened a new rail trail and we wanted to cycle through the fall colours. This hotel is conveniently located just off the freeway exit next to Wallmart and Bob Evans. The staff were very friendly and the interia of the rooms is good. Bathrooms are showing their age with marks in places. The beds are ok but certainly not up to the latest Hampton Inn standard - which I find to be very comfortable. The pool and hot tub were being redecorated when I was there so should be freshly reopened by mid October. The free hot breakfast isn't anything to look forward to - at least the eggs we tried seemed to be more closely associated with a rubber tree than a hen. Provided you take the resonable rate into consideration this is an ok choice. The rail trail is a bit hard to find, it starts just north of town as there are still rails in the town centre. Once you find it there is parking available, the only word of warning is that the trail is slighly downhill leaving Gaylord so you have all the uphill on the return at the end of the day.
