The hotel has been recently remodeled and our room was very nice inside. We would have enjoyed our stay except that the walls were paper thin and we could hear our neighbors on both sides do everything. Even normal conversations were easy to hear. One side didn't quiet down until 1:30 in the morning. The other neighbor didn't quiet down until 3:30 in the morning. Needless to say I was quite tired when we had to get up at 8:00 to continue our trip. Other than that we really enjoyed our room. Unfortunately, do to the thinness of the walls we will never stay here again.

This is a nice small place with a big hotel price. The room we had on the third floor was nice with a large patio door, but no patio to stand on like the other side of the building.
The location is great, you can walk to the tourist areas and up to the Del Monte mall for a starbucks fix.
The staff get's going early here at 7:15 a maintenance person was tearing a bed appart in the room next to us - not just the maid service - but actually repairing soemthing with the bed platform - sounded like they were tearing the carpet out or something.
Biggest disappoinment about this place is not the accomodations or the staff, but the other people that stay here. Several encounters in the elevator with guests from other countries where even a simple greeting of hello or a smile provoked a glare - guess not every traveler can be troubled with such trivial polietness.

My mother and I stayed here the night before we were going to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We were pleasantly surprised when we entered the lobby. Very pretty with an elaborate water feature wall. The front desk clerk was very friendly and personable.
The room is lovely. When you first walk in the room, the smell of new carpet hits you. They must have just been replaced. Very soft and lovely carpet. The beds were very comfortable as well. High quality sheets. So comfy!! The sink is outside of a separate room with the toilet and the shower. Our room did not have a bathtub which was a little bit of a let down. We had a small balcony, but it was too chilly to spend any time out there.
The breakfast was okay. Donuts, cinammon rolls, toast, cereal. You are served by an attendant. The baskets are right in front of you, but you have to ask the attendant to get whatever you would like. There was a big sign that said tips are encouraged. This bothered me. I can't see tipping for something that I could have easily done myself. Seemed greedy on the hotel's part.
If you need a good place for dinner, head to the nearby Rosine's. It was recommended by the hotel and was very good. We both had fettucini alfredo and the cost was reasonable. It was a Friday night and they were packed!!
I would definitely stay here again!

Stayed in BWMI mid April. It looked like there were some renovations in progress for the summer season that we weren't made aware of at time of booking. Our room had a sea view on the second floor but due to renovations the door had no weather stripping, as such there was howling gale blowing in throught the door. We were moved to a larger room and given a discount to compensate but we chose to spend the second night in a very cute motel in Carmel for half the price with breakfast included...!
If you are going to spend time in Carmel and drive Big sur then I recommend staying in Carmel. If you are going to stay in BWMI I recommend the beach view side of the hotel but get a King bedroom (or bigger) on the 1st floor. You will be much more shielded from the elements and will appreciate the extra space.
