Like most Hampton Inn's, this is a good property at a good price. The room was clean and the managment was very friendly at check in. If you have a family and wish to use the pool, you should ask for unit C at the rear of the propery where the inside pool is located, the hotel runs deep away from the office.
The hotel is located just off the interstate, but a great distance from downtown Michigan City and even further from the beach. It is a good passing through location to stop for the night.
If you are a runner, it is not a good location to get a long loop in, even a short one. The hotel is on the main road into town and not appropriate for running nor did I wish to venture into the side streets.
This is a good place to stop with the usual Hampton Inn quality.

I am a frequent traveler and stay, most often, at higher end hotels. However, I almost exclusively choose a Hampton Inn when choosing more modest accomodations. Usually I find the Hampton staff to be friendly, professional and courteous. The hotels are always clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, I did not find this to be the case in Michigan City, Indiana. The rooms and the hotel lobby and hallways were dirty and dated. The hotel is in need of an update of paint (wallpaper)and change out of carpeting. The bathroom was dirty (white grout almost black) and the plumbing was worn and in poor condition (loose, leaking, etc.). The one saving grace was the bed. It had been updated and was the usual comfortable Hampton bed. Although it would certainly do as a hotel (it wasn't that bad), it did not meet my usual expectations for a Hampton Inn.

I always worry about security in a hotel. All of the first floor rooms have sliding doors to the parking lot or the back of the hotel. The door in our room didn't lock. We relied on the security bar. Fortunatly, it worked. Upon leaving I noticed the other rooms had security bars that were bent and destroyed. Thankfully, ours wasn't.
Realizing that Hampton is the budget brand of Hyatt, I still expected more. All other stays in Hamptons have been great. This is an old hotel that has ben added onto and converted. The carpet and bedding appeared to be new or newer and for the most part clean. But, there was a drop ceiling in the bath and mold at the corners of the ceiling. I really don't want to know what was above those tiles. I now know what Hampton's minimum level of acceptable is.
The pool was nice, the staff was friendly.
We stayed here as an alternative to camping. So our standards weren't real high and we didn't complain.
I would stay here again, but it would only be on the second floor.

Upon arrival I was given the wrong room, when I finally got the room I requested, it only had double beds and was quite run down. The whole hotel just wasn't what I would expect from a Hampton. On the positive, the hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly. Not bad, but not up to par with other Hampton Inns.
