We had an enjoyable stay at the Hampton Inn, La Porte, IN. We are from the area and stayed just to have something different to do in the middle of a cold, dreary winter. Our daughter loves to swim, so we decided to stay because of the pool. The pool was very nice, but the hot tub/jacuzzi area was not so nice. There were ants everywhere surrounding the hot tub and in the water. Other than that, the stay was fine. Staff was nice and helpful, food was hot and rooms were clean.

Mold at the Hampton INN
Guest name: Aroadguy, Chicagp
This hotel has a mold problem in its bathrooms. Be forewarned... I am a Diamond Hilton HHonors Member who stays in the Hampton Chain at least 3 nights per week. Where I Love this hotel chain, this specific location needs to address this issue

My mom and I stayed at this hotel while attending a wedding. It was great! The hotel was very clean, had a great location, and very nice staff.
The gentleman working at the front desk was very helpful and informative when we asked for clarification on directions to the wedding.
The breakfast buffet bar was great- plenty of fresh, hot food for all that was there, and very clean and tidy.

The hotel was quite nice. It is rather new, so you would expect things to not be in too much disarray yet. The rooms were nice, the lobby was nice, the staff were nice. The location was very ODD. It was kind-of like a hotel stuck in the middle of an old, broken down truck lot. There were broken, old trucks surrounding the property--really unsightly. If I didn't know we were in Indiana, I would have thought it was part of some Disneyworld themeing or something--it just seemed so out of place for such a nice hotel. The freeway is very close. And it is out in the middle of absolutely NO WHERE. Really.
We stayed here to go to Washington Park on Lake Michigan for a few days. Michigan City is a cute little city. It is a lot longer of a drive from LaPorte to Michigan City than one would think and there is NO where to eat in LaPorte. The drive into Michigan City was unpleasant to us. I love that Hampton provides a breakfast. (Everyone should do that.) I liked the cleanliness of the rooms.
One other odd thing to mention. We didn't think we were there on a particularly busy night, but when we returned from dinner, we could not find a place to park in the hotel parking lot. And since it is in the middle of no where, there really is no where else to park. It thought it was really odd that they seem to have such a small parking lot--or maybe we were there on a night were there were a lot of big vehicles taking up more than their fair share of spots, but we had to ask the receptionist to ask a guest to move their vehicle so we could park our car!
Over all, we did not have a bad experience here, but because we stayed to go to Lake Michigan, I would think a while before choosing LaPorte Hampton again. Next time, I'd like to choose something closer to or in Michigan City.
