Lovely small hotel, close to restaurants and Old Town. The staff was very helpful and friendly, greeting us wherever they saw us. The breakfast buffet was unbelievably generous with a great selection of choices from eggs, meats, fish, cheese, fresh fruits, yogurt, breads, sweet breads, juices, coffee/tea. Our room was nicely decorated, using dark wood and modern furniture, and clean. The bed was wonderful!
Prague was edgy and beautiful with so many sights, shopping and restaurants. We would recommend a walking tour to see and hear about the history of Prague. For all one hears about potential trouble with pickpockets, etc. we had no trouble. Even our 16 year old and her friends were able to go about the city without incident.
From Prague we were traveling to Salzburg. We hired Mike's Chauffeur, based on other reviews, to drive us there. It is a 5 hour drive and let's just say that if Mike recommends Uncle Jan as your driver, DON'T. The road is often just two lanes and Uncle Jan drove, on average, over 90 mph, cutting corners, passing blindly and tailgating. Seemed he wanted to pass every car between Prague and Salzburg. Even my husband, who never gets rattled, was tense and very glad to arrive in Salzburg. It was exhausting.

We stayed at the Maximilian and everything was GREAT!! The breakfast was amazing. The buffet selection was extensive and cooked to order items are also available. The front service and other service personnel were quick and attentive. All of their recommended service providers were great. Their dining recommendations were perfect also. The hotel is tucked away from the action, but very much within walking distance of it. Business services were great as well. My (now) fiance used the hotel safe to store my engagement ring pre-proposal and there were no issues. They arranged for candles, champagne and flowers to be in our room after our return from dinner. My fiance was delighted with how well they orchestrated this event to his specifications. When we go back to Prague, we will certainly stay here.

Just had a 2 night stay at this clean, swish, comfortable little hotel in great location just a few minutes walk from Old Town Square. Superb bedroom decor with big mirrors - lovely bathrooms, luxury bedlinen, flat screen TV, DVD/CD player in bedroom so take your films and music from home, dressing gowns n slippers, tea and coffee facilities in room.
We were in red house on 4th floor - ask for a quiet room like ours (443) as if yours is near the lifts you will hear guests coming and going and chatting as they wait for the lifts.
Breakfasts did look truly scrumptious and well presented but we didn't partake as we preferred to try out the local bakery shops.
Beers cost the most on old Town Square - expect to pay ?3 (90 CzK) for a small beer because of their location. Most other well located places charge around ?2 (49-59 czk) for a large beer so shop around!
Buying your currency - you get a better czk rate in UK high street than in Prague city - the money exchange places try to fool you by boldly advertising their buy czech crowns at say around 32 but they actually SELL their currency to you at only around 28/?
Dont waste your time shopping - its expensive anyway - put on your most comfy shoes as all those cobbles take their toll and trek around the back streets - loads to see for free - churches n ornate painted buildings tucked away everywhere, parks n quiet public gardens hidden behind high walls - try the Waldstein garden with its strange wall of what looks like skulls from a distance - watch the strutting peacocks (including an unusual albino white one). Stop every now and then under a shady umbrella for liquid refreshments and some people watching.
Sundays are a bit quiet in Prague - you'll probably find your favourite wine bar or restaurant is closed
Can recommend K U bar - swish and modern and inexpensive -glass of wine and a large beer only czk88. Open 1700 - 0200 but not on Sundays! Ditto the WOW bar near the hotel - its got swish dalmation print seat covers and is cheap but chic.

I was considering what I could add to the range of already highly accurate reviews posted on this hotel and decided on the following:
The service in the breakfast room is perfectly pitched- lots of staff, all eager to assist without being overly attentive- absolutely faultless. We love the tea caddies- look out for the 'Caravan' tea
made me chuckle and well it does taste a bit, er, gravelly (is that a word?).
The ambience is extremely relaxing- the hotel has a beautifully calm atmosphere.
The design of the hotel is superb without drawing attention to this fact- the attention to subtle detail is really something.
The products in the bathroom are lovely and I would recommend
the bathsalts as they have a lovely coconut smell.
The rooms on the first floor do have a rubbish desposal point underneath so I would suggest a higher room that doesn't face the square if you do not wish your sleep to be interrupted if you are a light sleeper ( I personally didn't notice but my husband awoke to the vibrations of the lorry reversing below!)
It's a short walk to the bridge and square from the hotel- we didn't use the underground very much on this stay which was a pleasant surprise.
The restaurant next door, Chez Marcel should be a definite on your itinierary- we went at least three times on our trip and every time the service was friendly and the food was excellent.
You can't go wrong for beer in Prague obviously and there are still plenty of pints to be had for under a quid, although it's much harder to find a 30p pint these days!
I would recommend Bar and Books for a cool cocktail/smoke in an upmarket setting although the prices do reflect this (about ?5 for a cocktail although they are very good!) You can find it by heading to the square and take the left alleyway by the old church, left at the fork and it's on the left hand side. There are some nice jazz bars in that area too and all tis is within easy walking distance of the Maximilian.
We also headed out on the bus (public transport is so easy to use in Prague) to the bobsleigh run- it's about a pound a go and so much fun! It's a great lookout point too with great views and has a nice bar area.
Overall, it's a definite thumbs up on all accounts- I wouldn't hesistate to recommend it to a wide demographic.
