I stayed at two Hampton Inns (Abilene & Austin) last week. The one in Austin was $150/night including their tax. I was appalled that both Hampton Inns use polystyrene for their breakfasts; everything is plastic. Since Hampton Inn claims to be environmentally friendly, am not sure how they justify all this non recyclable plastic/garbage but it's a big turn off. Cities in the bay area have banned this altogether since polystyrene is an environmental disaster. Is it really that difficult to wash a few plates? It also comes across as cheap.
Aside from that, for those of you who care about fitness, the gym had a decent recumbent bike & elliptical machine but the treadmill was lousy--no cushioning and the settings were way off.
The beds were comfy though and all-in-all, the room was quiet (especially since it's right next to the freeway) but certainly no great bargain since it wasn't that cheap & the location is not near anything. The traffic was pretty horrendous getting into Austin.

Stayed during bike week. Staff was great. They set up places for the bikes to be washed. Put out ice water for those that came in hot and dry. Front desk was very helpful, on local places to eat, and how to get to them. They even bake hot cookies for an afternoon snack. Pool is about half shaded so it's a great place to cool down.

We stayed here for 4 days while visiting friends. We chose this area to be near our friends, it is not in downtown Austin and there isn't anything to walk to nearby. The room was large and clean. I had read about the no pressure shower head and that turned out to be true. I was bummed that this Hampton Inn did not have a frig or microwave (but others do). The breakfast was fair, the staff was very nice. You can drive to restaurants in the area, it's just off the freeway and it wasn't a bad drive into downtown(20min non rush hour). It's nothing too special, but if you have business or are visiting people it's fine. If you want to stay in Austin proper, I'd look for something more downtown.

We love to stay at Hampton Inns because of their consistent quality. We were disappointed with this one - it's just not up to par with other Hampton Inns at which we've stayed.
Here are the pros and cons:
Pros-
-Easy access to the highway
-Clean room
-Helpful service staff (we asked for a port-a-crib for our baby and someone brought it up promptly and then returned with a flat sheet a few minutes later)
-Good breakfast
Cons-
-Desk clerk was not very friendly or helpful (we asked where there was a playground in the area for our kids to let off some steam and he looked at me like I was asking him how to get to Mars)
-Air conditioning in the room was not working properly - it either had to be on full blast (freezing) or off completely (stuffy).
-The hotel website and materials in the room said there was a Chili's restaurant next door -- it is closed and is now a daycare. Part of the reason we stayed at this particular hotel was the proximity to decent food. There is no restaurant onsite or within walking distance to this hotel, so we had to pack up our kids to go out for dinner.
I suppose this hotel would be good for business travelers, but it wasn't the best for a family with small kids. I will still keep Hampton on my list, but not this one.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn North for three nights. The room was quiet, quite clean, and the usual Hampton Inn decor. We checked in and were called immediately after we got to our room that they wanted to move us to another room because this room was booked the next night. We had one free night from Hilton points. I am not sure what the difference was between the two rooms. I like to take baths and there was not a plug so they had to bring one up. The breakfast was fine but in this hotel, the stations were extremely spread out. They had one Internet computer which was quite fast and was often available which was nice. Our third day, we came back to the room and it not been made up at 3:30. We left money each day in hopes of more efficient room make up. The second day, the dirty linens were left on a table. I called the desk and left the linens in the hallway which they retrieved. I also found a long black hair in the bathroom that did not belong to either my husband or me.
Except for the hair, the front desk was aware of these things.
