The exterior looked okay, then it was downhill from there. They gave us a second floor room but forgot to tell us a small detail...no elevators, we had huge pieces of luggage swaying up the staircases, which was not the way to start a relaxing night. As previous reviewers stated, there is indeed a musty odor throughout the hotel. The television might as well have rabbit ears, theres only a few snowy channels. We requested extra towels which never came, we had to go out to the maids cart to get them in our pajamas. The hotel airport shuttle is fine. I remember when La Quinta had all new facilities countrywide, and you can book them knowing youre getting an immaculate hotel. Its now going the way of the Howard Johnsons of old. This hotel is only good for flopping for the night to catch a flight and ultra comfort isnt an issue.

Obviously, this hotel just joined LaQuinta (a canvas LaQ sign was draped over the old one) Many of the amenties listed will not be available until after a planned renovation (e.g. "premium" cable tv and pay-for-view movies). We had to have the tv set replaced twice before we even had one that worked. They had screwed up my reservation (they had 4 rooms for one night rather than one room for 4) but it was straightend out. My main complaint was the breakfast room. It was ridiculously small (@10x15) for the number of rooms. It was hard to get anywhere near the food, let alone sit down. People were trying to elbow their way past kids burning waffles and adults pouring hot coffee. Given the size of the hotel, they need at least three times the space to adequately (and safely) accomodate all guests.
You get what you pay for....

PROS:
- Was a good price for a 4 night stay, even when booked directly from La Quinta's website directly (used the AAA discount)
- The Burger King next door stays open till midnight (and they let me go up to the drive-thru without a car)
- Good continental breakfast, nothing out of the ordinary however
CONS:
- Strong musty smell everytime we entered the room
- A/C worked, but not very well
- A small part of the carpet near the vanity seemed damp, as if there was some recent flooding
- The shower was disappointing - Good water pressure but a very narrow stream, PLUS the showerhead was placed waaaaay too low, good enough for little kids, maybe, but even my mom at 5 feet was too tall for this shower
I'm glad I got a good price for the room & that I didn't need to spend much time in it except for sleeping. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you will be spending a lot of time in the room.
Just because a place is inexpensive does not excuse simple deficiencies.

I've been visiting the Silicon Valley area for nearly 2 years now and have ALWAYS stayed at the Gateway. (at least 6 times) I have always found the staff to be helpful and friendly. I've never had a bad room. In the summer the Pool area is always clean and inviting. The beds are always comfortable, the bathrooms always spotless.
Yes, it's in an inconvenient place for travelers without cars, however, how many travelers don't have cars or a way to get around? Yes, the airport noise is loud; it advertises that it's NEAR the airport. (people stay near the airport for a reason, and they know that airport noise is a by-product)
There is a Burger King right next door, perfect for a snack! The gas station next door also has snacks for your junk food attack.
A great price for a GREAT place to stay!

I stayed overnight here on July 23 rd. I booked through park and fly. Best Western will watch your car up to 14 days. I find it a little cheaper than using other overnight parking plus you stay in their hotel and the shuttle takes you right to the airport. The check in went smooth we arrive at 12:30 a.m. We had a one room/ 2 queen size bed. It was small but very clean. Like others stated, you do hear the planes coming and going but well it's by the airport. The AC did seem to drown the noise out. I needed extra towels and I went down the hall and saw the cleaning ladies in this room and was able to get them right away. The breakfast area is small but comfy. It was not crowed at 8 am on Tue am. They served English muffins, scrambled eggs, muffins, cereal, milk, juice (OJ and Cranberry), and coffee. I think the food was fine for it being free. They also had mix fruit cocktail and apples. So I had a great stay. Downside: If you are a family of 5, there is not much privacy. The sink area is on the outside of the bathroom. TV played well, and the water is nice and hot!
