Good rooms and bad rooms

We were a group using 16 rooms, so we saw a variety. some were fairly freshly updated, which means everything worked. Some should not have been rented out. Which means the place is a crap shoot.
The review gripes of mold seem a little overstated. In this climate, some mold is going to occur. Adapt.
If you get a good room, the place is a relative bargain for what you get. If you get a "bad" room, you are out of luck, as they claim they are full. On the other hand, when our AC died, they managed to find another room in minutes at 1AM.
Most Israeli breakfasts ore over the top. This place is way over the top. Too bad so many folks lack hygiene. Your food will be touched by other guests.
Bottom line, some will love it, others not. Seems the game with the ex-american hotel property sold to Israeli interests. Tourism been poor the last few years, so remodel revenue has been scarce.
Biggest risk: your neighbors. Some of our group were on wings with very , very, very rowdy neighbors, which hotel security seems powerless to quiet. Odd. I would expect they would want to prevent a room being trashed, but that did not seem a concern. Strange when the guys at the front door are all armed, and the interior security has the demeanor of a mouse.

I stayed in an Executive Room on the 16th. floor. These rooms have been refurbished and are in excellent condition. Small balcony with sea-view.
Complimentary chocolates and water on arrival. The only down sides are the ridiculous daily charge for wi-fi and the disorganised reception.
Executive room includes access to the Carmel Lounge which serves free snacks and drinks nearly all day
Breakfast takes you to another world and any hotel could learn from the Dan Panorama who are the undispute Kings of Breakfast!

Humid Hotel

The first thing one should know about Tel Aviv-Jaffa is that despite being in Israel, the city is humid. It reminded my husband and I of New Orleans in June. We had a room on the 12th floor of the Dan Panorama, which was a decent size. Unfortunately, the confusing temperature control was not functioning the night we were there. This was not good as before accessing our room, we walked through hallways that had windows open to allow the stifling air in to the building. The double bed was comfortable, but my husband and I miss having a Queen size bed. Apparently, having a Queen size bed in Israel is not common. We did not have one hotel room in our ten days in Israel that had a Queen or King in it.
The Dan Panorama is across a busy street that parallels the Mediterranean Sea. Once you cross the busy street to the beach, you have to walk a couple of blocks to the nearest beach access. One can go on a lovely stroll along the promenade or play on the small beach. It is highly suggested to do this early in the morning as the temperatures soar quickly.
The food selection for breakfast was mind boggling! We have never seen such a buffet selection in our lives. The choices were overwhelmingly plentiful and diverse. There were an abundance of cheeses, breads, pastas, Asian dishes, vegetables and fruits. It was an American's delight with all of the traditional breakfast food there, too. Fresh orange juice was being squeezed for all the hotel's guests. Nothing beats fresh Israeli oranges!
Service at the hotel was wonderful. Our tour group had a midnight flight out of Ben Gurion thus we asked for a late departure. They were most accommodating by giving us until 6:00pm to depart our rooms. This worked out well after another day of touring, especially as our thermostat started working upon our return (Guess it's better late than never!).

The hotel is right on the beach, a bit off of the beaten track but very convenient to everything. The room was quiet and fairly modern, but the carpet was worn and the shower curtain was a challenge. Check in was just about the best we have seen, and the reception staff were happy to answer questions throughout the visit. The breakfast was also quite good; full Israeli breakfast, more than you could possibly imagine.

Dan Hotels are the largest group in Israel and perhaps as a result they have a take it or leave it attitude. Despite being situated next to the Carmel fruit market they had neither fresh fruit nor juices at breakfast, only canned. Similarly in four days stay I never once managed to have hot water for tea, only lukewarm.
The room was shabby, with peeling paint, and to add insult to injury on my third day I was evicted to make room for hundreds of American tourists with the casual comment that "we have overbooked, sorry about that but we are moving you to another hotel". When I asked to see the manager to complain I was told that he was too busy to talk to me.
