Folks, we seriously believe that no hotel in Mazatlan balances cost, amenities, location, and ambiance better.
For restaurants: it is above the Shrimp Bucket, next to the Olas Altas Steakhouse (fantastico!), adjacent to the Copa de Leche, within walking distance of the city's Cathedral, and Central Market, as well as the Plazuela Machado, rimmed with other super restaurants,
It faces the ocean on Olas Altas beach with waves for surfboarding, baitcasting, and is on bus lines that take you through the Zona Dorada all the way north to Playa Bruja.
The rooms in the front of the hotel are located across the street from the Malecon (a daily array of walkers, rollerbladers, joggers) with public art (monuments to Pacifico Cerveza and VW Pulmonias, among others).
The hotel staff is helpful, laundry services (by the pound(!) in by 9am back by 5pm). sheets, towels, drinking water daily--don't forget US$1.00 for the cleaning staff!
Drawbacks: slow lobby computer, no sink stopper in bathroom, slippery tile in the new pool area
If you want a Holiday Inn experience, there are the hotels in the Golden Zone, but the extra costs will buy several shots of Los Osuna's, an agave azul distilado (the maduro is so good that it hurts.)
This place is not for kids, the finicky, or those quick to find fault.

I really loved staying at La Siesta and hope to go back very soon. The rooms are very clean with an airconditioner. The linens and towels are changed every day. With a balcony to sit on outside our room, the ocean view was gorgeous. The beach was clean and a good place to swim with no rocks. The place feels save and secure and the staff very friendly. I took my laptop and was able to use it in the room with no problem. Mazatlan is a beautiful place to go and La Siesta is the place to stay if you like to have a feel of the old Mexico without all the tourist.

Viva la Mexico and my first trip to Mazatlan, April, 2008.
Sometimes it seems, folks create their own problems.
If you don’t want to climb stairs, don’t stay on the third floor…
Unless, you want an amazing Pacific Ocean view and bird’s eye
view of the festive Mexican-Parade-a-Day.
Located above one of the most famous restaurants along the beach, if the front desk attendant can’t help, the boys and girl at The Shrimp Bucket are delighted to oblige.
Highly recommend their food, and once you get used to customs, you may just relax as well, sit there for a “couple of hours” and enjoy an excellent breakfast, lunch or dinner and view of the ocean. After all, you're on VACATION! English spoken and service is excellent and very fun!
Public transportation is available in front of the hotel, and cabs are plentiful and reasonable.
Reminiscent of a charming un-restored hotel you might find along South Beach in Miami, the maid service was unobtrusive and satisfactory as are the rooms. If you just can’t stand lumps, bring your own pillow. A giant banyan tree shades the lovely courtyard and if you prefer swimming in a pool as opposed to frolicking in the sea, La Siesta has a secluded and very clean one.
Be sure to reserve ocean front! You won’t regret it.

Hotel is a two star by most ratings. That pretty much says it all. The location in the old town is the place to stay if you really want the flavor of Mazatlan. The bad part is the street directly between the hotel and the beach. It is quite noisy until about 2 am, I did not get a good nights sleep in the seven days we were there.
The Shrimp Bucket is a good place to eat. Internet access was poor in the room we had. I had to go into the hall to pick up the wireless service. The staff were friendly.
The ocean views were very nice, the main complaint was the noise,

This is a MUST for any Travleler. Simple, Clean rooms with no bugs. The Hotel is secure, as we found the main doors were always locked and had to get in through the reception area. Not to noisey for us but could be for some. Book a room with an Ocean view is a must.
With in walking distance to the Historic Centro District.
We would stay here again.
