Our family attended the Rotary convention. Our original hotel couldn't accomodate our travel changes, so we were switched to this hotel. It was affectionately referred to by us and many other guests as "The Pre
-Historic Mayfair".
The bathroom was so small you had to straddle the toilet to close the door. The vanity counter was miniscule...enough room for a toothbrush and a glass. The shower changed temperature constantly.
There were no room service menus in the room. When I inquired at the front desk, the clerk had no idea what I was talking to. Another clerk referred me to the restaurant upstairs. When I asked the manager for a room service menu, I had to wait, as all the available menus were out to tables. When we finally attempted to order from the room, we were hung up on. We called the front desk who assured us that room service would call us right back. We ended up ordering Thai from a local restaurant that delivered.
In the elevator lobby on our floor, a room service tray sat for over 2 days on the table. No one from housekeeping cleaned it up.
Some days we would get one face cloth for 4 people...other days...not!
On the plus side...we were in one of the rooms that had the beds upgraded with new mattresses, so at least they were comfy.
The staff was pleasant, except for the one room service dude who kept hanging up on us. However, not one of the best places to stay for the money.

The hotel room was OK, but what impressed me most was the kind reception in the hotel restaurant. Very friendly staff, going out of their way to please.
Breakfast executive style 10 dollar good value for the money
The concierge very helpful to organize shuttle service to int.airport. Taxi would cost 50 dollars, shuttle at 15 dollars pp.
I can recommend PRIME TIME SHUTTLE , red vans.

I stay in "lower rate" hotels near LA downtown frequently. The Mayfair is the best of the less than $100 hotels. Clean & quiet.

The neighbourhood wasn't as bad as I expected , but I don't advise lonely women to stay there. In my two night stay I saw the police getting inside the building twice while coming in or out. It 's really worth if you have to go downtown or to the Staples Center and you are in a group, but for a few dollars more you can get a much better hotel. Think twice.

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in order to attend a Garth Brooks conceert at the Staples Centre and chose it because of its location i.e. 10 minutes walk from the venue. Having read some of the reviews of this hotel I was worried as to what we would find. We were pleasantly surprised to find a pleasant , clean and relatively spacious room on the 12th floor with views of the Staples Centre on one side and the Hollywood sign on the other. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and we felt safe in the location. We walked to and from the Staples Centre with no problems and walked through the area to use the Metro when we needed. Granted we were never out late at night but that would apply in many cities. Taxis were readily available had we wanted them and when we booked a full day tour the company collected us from the hotel and delivered us back there.
For us this hotel was in a good location but it is probably not good for the main attractions in Los Angeles because of the distance from them if you do not have a car.
