We stayed here for 3 nights (15th-17th June) and thought the place was OK. We were given an option for our room - one near ground floor or one on the 4th floor (room 403). We chose the 4th floor as we wanted peace and quiet to sleep at night. We didn't check out the other option as we were happy with room 403.
The room was internal facing i.e. the window faced in towards a central air column (you could see the sky and kind of know what the day was like) with no views of anything. The room was small (what you would expect) but clean and neat with storage space. The bathroom was also clean however the shower door made a very strange awful creaking sound when you opened it. There was an air conditioning unit in the room which was great as it got very hot while we were there.
Breakfast was great - lots of choice - a basket of bread and croissants, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee, juice, etc....The staff were helpful especially the guy who does the night shift. The hotel is very close to the Oberkampf metro - 3 minutes walk (when we got the directions right!) and it is a great line if you want to travel to the outskirts of Paris e.g. Versailles, airports, etc... as there is usually only one change and there is not a lot of steps going down at this metro station. Lots of good eating places and if you go down Oberkampf road there are lots of patisseries, bakeries and a supermarket if you need supplies. On the Tuesday there was a market day right outside - great for picking up fruit and vege plus other goodies.
One other thing to note is that although the hotel guests were relatively quiet the actual hotel itself was very noisy. Late at night we kept hearing scraping noises from above, like furniture being moved around, people using the bathroom, pipe noises, taps running, women with heels on and people trying to open their doors with their room keys - we found it difficult getting into the room on one or two occassions!
We would stay there again but would check out the room options first.
Excellent simple hotel

Very nice, clean hotel, close to Marais area and Place de la Bastille. Two minutes from nearest metro station with fast conection to any of top turistic attractions. Rooms and bathrooms are of a reasonable size, not too big, but spacious enough. If possible try to avoid groundfloor rooms. It's like sleeping in the street. That would be my only complain about the hotel - we booked our room two months in advance and were assured that upper floors rooms are still available. As it turned out it was not the case.
The hotel recently raised the price for breakfast to 12 Euros per person so we decided to have breakfast outside and it was a good decision. For 24 Euros a couple you get excelent breakfast in the town, in a nice cafe place as a bonus!

My husband and I are in our late twenties and recently stayed at the St. Louis Bastille in Paris, France for 5 nights. We found the hotel to be quaint and cozy, very French in style and class.
The front desk staff was more than helpful on many occasions, spoke great English and were always friendly. They were patient with tourists young and old and always willing to go the extra mile, whether that meant helping an older couple book a last minute trip to Versailles or charging our camera battery for us while we went out for a quick lunch.
The rooms were clean and nicely styled. Ours had a window that opened from which I sat during a rain storm on the window seat and read a book. The street was quiet and safe with ample places for food or drink quite close. One place was just a couple doors down. You aren't in the main tourist area of Paris but can easily get there, and anywhere you need to go. We walked to the Seine where we took the hop on/hop off boat tour recommended by the front desk staff.
A fridge in the lobby has refreshments (beer, champagne, water and sodas) for sale at very reasonable prices (read: NOT mini-bar prices) and they happily stock the front desk with wine openers that you can borrow to enjoy a bottle of wine in your room.
The cleaning staff weren't all the friendliest but we rarely came into contact with them and aren't sure it wasn't just a lack of communication.
The breakfast was nice. Nothing fancy here but good coffee, lots of fresh bread and croissants, an English language paper and cute little jars of jam.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family. We will also be sure to stay here again if we ever make it back to Paris!

We spent five nights total (broken up into 3 and 2 w/ a trip to London in between) in the Hotel Saint-Louis Bastille and found it very suitable for our purposes. The room and bathroom were very nice and good size by our experience of European standards (I'm 6' 7"). Although sometimes the hot water was closer to warm than hot, it was plenty warm for a shower and shave. They have a fantastic market set up on the esplanade of Blvd. Richard Lenoir across from the hotel on Tuesdays, part of Thursday and Friday, which can be noisy in the early morning hours during set up. It didn't bother us, but if you are annoyed by such things you would be best served to avoid this hotel. We took a weekend trip over to London and the hotel kept our spare luggage on hand for us so as to lighten the load for that trip. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We would return to this hotel in the future.
