stayed in Sep 2007
Stayed here while touring Italy in July 2007. Was concerned by the last review but as there didn't seem to be any other hotels available in Pescara at this time we thought we'd chance it.
Overall we had a pleasant stay. OK the decor is in need of an update and the place could do with an overhaul but as we weren't paying huge sums of money for a room this wasn't a problem.
Our room was of a decent size, as was the bathroom, and everything was clean. We even had a balcony - not a place to sit and watch the sun sink over the horizon as it overlooked the building next door which was being renovated but a place where we could hang our swimsuits out to dry after a day at the beach.
The breakfast was pretty poor. Coffee, fruit juice, fruit, rolls and jam, yoghurt and (if down early) a small selection of salami and cheese. But there is a supermarket 2 minutes away and a fridge in the room if you are desperate (or go to the cafe next door and have breakfast Italian style).
The best thing about the hotel are the staff. They were very friendly, helpful and courteous (probably the most friendly we came across on our tour which also took in stays in Bergamo, Bologna and Rome). On hearing we were taking the train to Rome (4hrs), they did suggest the bus (2.5 hrs) and then tried to ply us with sandwiches and water (gratis). Also on arrival our room safe wasn't functioning properly but they had it fixed within 5 minutes.
The location of the hotel is fine - 3 minutes from the station (where buses leave from as well) and 5 minutes from the beach.
If you want the type of hotel which provides you with all the niceties and little extras, and which gives you stunning views and 40 TV channels in English don't come here. However, if all you require is somewhere which is clean, comfortable, has friendly and courteous staff, and is reasonably priced this is the place for you.

Stayed at this hotel in April 2007. Arrived with my wide and two children for 5 nights, but immediately on entering the hotel sensed that there would be problems. The entrance foyer was like something out of the 1950s. Now this would be quite endearing were it to in good condition. It was not. Marked, faded carpets; paint peeling from the walls, poor lighting. And the noise of building works.
We were given the room key, and made our way upstairs. As we went to the room, we passed several rooms on the same floor being renovated. Builders congregated in the corridors. The room we had been allocated was at the end of a corridor, in what might normally be a quiet location. On entering, we imediately noticed dust everywhere - from the plastering/drywall work. The furniture was poor quality, old, and damaged. There were cigarette burns on the bedsheets.
We asked for a new room, but the one we were given was almost as bad as the first. Reluctantly we stayed one night, and then left the next day. A bad experience, and one which would nbot be much better even if no building work was going on. No apology from the hotel, of course...

Hotel Ambra felt like a 3 star hotel, and we found everything top-notch from the professional staff to the modern double with balcony.
The breakfast was adequate but with limited choices.
I realize that this is Pescara and not Venice, but 75 euros in September seemed well spent and I would definitely recommend this hotel.
