Good for an overnighter
Guest name: bmttokyo, Tokyo, Japan
Coming in from TKY to LAX, planned an overnighter in Bakersfield to break our trip to SFO. We are Platinum PC members & used points to book this hotel.
Hotel was being re branded to Marriott so lots of work was being done in the hotel. Upon a seamless check in, our room was automatically upgraded to a 2 QN at the Executive floor. It was very clean, brand new but unfortunately, the carpets & furnishings had a very cheap feel to it.
Room had nice flat screen, coffee/tea service etc but no fridge. There were very few toiletry items. No big deal.
We were also given free coupons for breakfast. Kids eats free too. Breakkie prices were a bit overpriced at $30 for 2 including tax & tip. Thankfully we had a $20 credit.
Using points, may consider staying there again in the future. Paying cash though, the hotel is definitely overpriced at $150/night.

I stayed four nights and not once was disappointed. I actually booked a week long stay at the Bestwestern across the street, but after one night decided to move (older hotel in need of renovation). The Holiday Inn Select was ten times better. The front desk was very friendly and accommodating (no trouble booking a room on short notice). The parking lot is well lit and I felt much safer compared to the hotel across the street. My room was first rate. Huge, very clean and updated (light fixtures and furniture reminded of Las Vegas rooms, 32 inch LCD flat screen TV was delightfully surprising). The bed was perfect; king with four very comfortable pillows and the bathroom was immaculate. I always had a strong wireless internet connection and all essential cable channels available (some even hi-def, which was welcoming when watching NBA on TNT). The hotel gym was clean with new equipment (treadmills and elliptical machines, as well as, dumbbells and strength machine). I had breakfast every morning at the lobby restaurant and was pleased each time (very good omelets). The only objection I have was that there isn’t much of anything around the hotel. Located in the downtown area, I drove about 15 minutes to get to the nearest grocery store and fast food was about a 10 minute drive. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and will stay at this hotel again when in town.

The best I have experienced in Bakersfield

First I must say that because I am a Priority Club member we were upgraded to the executive floor. Our room was spacious, smart and very comfortable. When we arrived the reception was exceptionally helpful and efficient. There is a free car park behind the hotel. Very importantly there is a decent restaurant in the hotel - previous experiences of food in Bakersfield have been awful, and it was good to get a satisfactory meal without having to drive. (I only stay in Bakersfield because of its location between SF and LA.) I can see that there might be a problem with noise from the nearby railway -do they have to sound the horn when they pass through the station?- but possibly because we had a room at the front side of the hotel it wasn't too intrusive. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and we will return if we need a hotel in Bakersfield again.

Spent one night at the Holiday Inn Select Bakersfield and it was a dump! The desk clerks were not friendly and couldn't help us when asked questions. ALL soda machines were sold out or out of order. We arrived late in the evening and couldn't get anything to drink. Also, we went to every floor to check the machines and most of the floors didn't have a machine, just an empty space. They gave us two free drink coupons but the lobby bar was already closed and it wasn't even 10:00pm. "Oh well" is all they said. I was told they had a shuttle to and from the airport and when we arrived, I called the hotel to have the shuttle pick us up. I was told that they guy was out driving around and didn't have a cell phone or way to contact him so we had to wait until he got back to the hotel, then come pick us up. I informed the hotel prior to our arrival that we would need the shuttle at a specific time. We took a cab which cost $20 because we were tired and wanted to get to the hotel. This place is a joke! Do not stay here if you don't have to. Thank goodness it was only for one night.

We stayed for one night last week. We thought the room was comfortable and quite roomy. However, be sure to request a room on the street side and not facing the parking lot. The trains behind the parking lot pass by frequently and blow their horns several times as they go by. For light sleepers, it is almost impossible to sleep through this noise.
