We stayed in this hotel for few days. Rooms were clean and the breakfast was ok (of course you have to be there in time, not at the last moment).
The main advantage was the fact that The Palms is located very close to Dysney Area - 10 minutes driving.
The receptionists do not seem to know much about the area/events so do not expect too much help from them.

We too were a bit leary of the hotel, because of the low price. It was well worth the money. We did not have any trouble. We stayed in the hotel part which I thought was nice. The rooms were very nice and clean. So close to Disney. We are staying there again in February 2009

The Palms was an awful hotel. We stayed in the hotel part, although the villas looked much nicer, at least from the outside. I booked this hotel because of its close proximity to Disney, the free 'deluxe hot breakfast', and the free shuttle to Disney. The room was fine (although we had to move twice because the first room we were put in did not have a pullout like I had booked, and neither did the second room). The common areas of the hotel are dirty and very dated. The breakfast was terrible. The only thing that was hot was the toast! There was no fruit and nothing hot like was indicated when I booked it online. The dishes were all styrofoam. The staff were rude and unprofessional, and they seemed to be put out whenever you asked them for anything. The so called free shuttle to Disney only ran three times in the morning and three times in the evening and only to Epcot. One night the shuttle did not show up at Epcot so a large group of hotel guests had to take taxis back to the hotel and since it is operated by another company, the hotel refused to reimburse us, and they don't seem to care that their guests are treated poorly by the shuttle service. Another time the shuttle arrived at 10:45pm rather than 10:15pm. We ended up moving to a Disney resort for our last night as we could not handle this hotel any longer. Taxis are very expensive. For your own piece of mind, stay at Disney! Free transportation to all parks and the airport, friendly service, and at a price not much more than off the resort, especially when you factor in taxi fares!

Burlap bag quality blankets and mouse sized bugs!

I think my sister described it as a bug, however, it was the size of a mouse! It was the first thing I saw when I opened the door! And was laughed at by the front desk and the maintenance man for calling about a bug in Florida! Oh well...I expect them outside but not in my kitchen, coming out of my pillow case and mattress! The sheets were so old that they were see through. They were stained with various things as well.... EWWWW!!!!! The blanket was rough and looked to be an antique! The grounds were nice the pool seemed okay (a bit over chlorinated probably b/c it was not regularly cleaned).
Thank GOD EXPEDIA gave me a full refund as we ended up checking out at mid night on our very first night!!!
BEWARE and STAY AWAY! There are too many other hotels that are cheaper and won't leave you itching for days!!!!!

We just returned from Florida after having stayed at the Villas part of the Palms, and would probably return to this hotel. The hotel was not new, but was an alright place to stay. It was close to most major attractions and restaurants. The room was nice, the bathroom was less nice, but was cleaned everyday and the cleaning staff were very flexible. The pool was the best part of the hotel area. A full breakfast was included, but there was no fruit at all...not even Florida oranges! and the juice was powdered sugar, but the breakfast was free, so what do you expect. Wireless internet is only available in the lobby at the Villas. If you are staying in the Hotel part of the Palms, internet is apparently available in each room.
We got a great deal from Expedia that included our flight, accommodations and rental car. Beware of extra costs though. There is a $45 resort fee that they charge when you arrive. There is also a car rental fee that is charged with the package.
I've stayed in other hotels in the Orlando area and overall, I'd give the Palms and 3 out of 5. This rating is based on the fact that we were out of the hotel doing things everyday, and spent little time in our room. The hotel is very family friendly.
