Not Bad, but not great

I booked into this hotel with a friend as we were attending a concert at the Metro Arena. The only major issue was I had booked the hotel on line - once the confirmation came through on email, it was a double when I requested a twin. I called the hotel direct and changed to a twin room. I had been told this had been done. Upon check in we were informed the room was a still a double and could not be changed as the hotel was fully booked. I was willing to accept the room as we didn't really have a choice, but the check in agent didn't even apologise - not even an offer of a free drink! My friend had recenlty had major surgery so sharing a bad was not the nicest experience for her. Also there was a massive row outside our door at about 4am which was very disruptive. But despite all the hotel was pretty decent and the food and beverages staff were very attentive. The buffett in the evening was ok - if a little cold but was very handy prior to attending the concert. I would stay here again purley for it's location to the arena - and wouldn't expect much more for ?79 per night!

Booked in here by work for a 1 night stay. Have stayed in Jurys Southampton and Islington and this isn't quite as good. The room I had was above an elevated road which generated quite a bit of noise. I would have asked to move but I had already unpacked and it was only 1 night. Room was large and clean. Breakfast was fine - normal Jury's fare. Location pretty central, but advise you to check whether you are near the road before you unpack!

Our 2 night stay at the Jury's Inn started badly and went downhill from there.
It took 45 minutes to get booked into our room even though we were second in the queue. Several staff were wandering aimlessly about, not thinking to help the 2 members of staff on reception, one of which was a trainee.
After returning from an evening out (approximately 12.30am) we tried to get to sleep in our room. That didn't happen until 5am and three calls to reception. We were placed between a stag and hen party, that I appreciate is not the hotel's fault, but security did little to quieten them. The doors to the rooms slammed shut rather than closed and the walls must have been paper thin as I could tell you all about what 'Mark" had been up to for the night. Very restful, especially as we had to be up early in the morning to attend a wedding.
We did complain again in the morning and to her credit, the young girl on reception managed to move our room for the second evening. We were moved to the seventh floor and did have a better nights sleep-getting to sleep about 3am after the adjoining room had stopped moving furniture and talking.
It is not the standard I expected for ?91 a night and a certainly would not stay there again.

Stayed here with a friend for a girly weekend and booked it as it was a good price and central. There is nothing wrong with this hotel if you are looking for something reasonable, basic and central. The rooms are clean, the train station and city centre is about a ten minute walk and the staff are well trained and friendly.
The hotel was packed full of football fans and stag/hen party types, however, who seemed to be drunk most of the time. This led to me and my friend being approached several times, usually by drunken guys in the elevator. It was amusing but it did happen once too often. I would think that this hotel is packed full of similar clientele most weekends so wouldn't recommend this hotel for a romantic getaway or for older guests who are looking for somewhere quiet.
Although the location is quiet it is situated in a slightly seedy area with some rough looking bars and you have to walk through a deserted "plaza" area to get to it, so not recommended to walk home alone.
Will probably treat myself to somewhere a bit more upmarket when I return to Newcastle.

After checking in, I telephoned reception to ask for a cork screw, to open a bottle of wine I had. I was told (even though I hadn't asked) that they did not have one I could keep in my room! I was told to take the wine downstairs to the bar, where it would be opened for me. Every hotel I've ever stayed at would have found someone to bring one to my room and open it for me!
I had also missed dinner, so I asked about getting a late meal. I was told that the bar had cold sandwiches. I asked for some to be sent to my room, but no, I had to telephone the bar, order my sandwiches and then go downstairs and collect them myself! I had to walk past all the guests in the bar and reception with an open plate of over-priced (?4.45) tasteless sandwiches. The indignity of it! When I asked why they did not do room service, the bar person told me it was "company policy"!
The rooms also have no safes. Instead there is a sign on the door warning guests not to leave valuables in rooms, but instead to take them to the reception, where free (whoopie-do!) safety deposit facilities are available. This means, having checked in and unpacked, you have to take all your valuables out of the room and to reception every time you go out! Why not just put safes in the rooms like pretty much every other decent hotel?
One more thing: UK hotels are hopeless when it comes to Wi-Fi (in Ireland and in most European hotels you get free Wi-Fi). However, Jurys Inn Newcastle takes this scam to a new level. They charge ?5 per hour (I pay ?15 per month at home for 15mbps). But worry not; you can get 24 hours for ?10. Never mind the fact that most hotel guests will only have time to use a few of those 24 hours! The hotels must know this so this is dishonest.
I travel to Newcastle a lot for business and I'll be looking around for alternatives, because I don't like paying for a place where the feeling is "we'll do as little for you as we think we can get away with".
Hit them where it hurts and stay away until they remember that this is supposed to be a SERVICE industry!
