OK hotel marred by noisy location

I stayed at this hotel while visiting ETH Zurich, and it is conveniently located for that. The main disadvantage is that it is located on a busy street right by a tram line that runs early in the morning until late at night. I stayed on the first floor, on the tram side, so I was probably the worst situated for that. On the other hand, although it kept me up the first night, I got used to it after that. If you are a light sleeper though, you may want to pay the premium for the rooms on the quiet side of the building.
On the plus side my room, which was described as a single on the hotel web site, could have easily accommodated two people. The restaurant is excellent, although their prices for dinner and lunch seem kind of high. This was true of everyplace I ate at in Zurich, though. The neighborhood is pleasant and interesting to walk around in, although there are not a whole lot of restaurants nearby.

Was visiting ETH Zurich for a four day conference, and booked into the Rigihof. I've stayed here a couple of times before (January 2007 and March 2007) and enjoyed my stay both times.
Good things:
+ Easy access to university and public transport. You can also walk to the rail station in about 15 minutes if you like (it is downhill; I wouldn't recommend walking to the hotel with luggage!)
+ Decent room rates for Zurich
+ Rooms are small, but very comfortable. New bathrooms, comfortable beds, good workspace.
+ Breakfast is great, in a lovely terraced area.
+ Front desk staff are helpful.
Negative things:
- The room was very hot in the summer, and I had to keep the windows closed as my room was facing Universitatstrasse. Previously I had stayed in "superior" rooms, which faced the back. These were cooler (though just as well decorated)
- Wifi charges are very high.
- Rooms on the street are rather noisy.
Overall:
I'd stay again. I've enjoyed all three of my stays at the Rigihof.

Stayed 6 days in this hotel & happy to give 2 stars out of 5.
Our tiny corner suite has a long winding balcony, which is in urgent need of repair. Toilet is big enough for one person to use at a time.
Service is patchy. The front desk lady in evening shift is well-mannered but not the day shift ladies, some of them seemed to hate their jobs.
Similar experience to a couple of previous reviewers, restaurants staff were not attentive & took ages to acknowledge customers requests.
Would definitely choose a different hotel next time.

We stayed for 2 nights as my husband had a meeting at the university. The hotel was a little tricky to find as the name is flat on the corner of the building and what you really see just says hotel (better road directions would be good). Inside the hotel is stylish in primary colours and clean lines. Our room was dedicated to a local reseraunteur, and was a good size and spotless. The bed was comfortable but the quilt was rather narrow (or too short!) The breakfast was fine with the usual breads, meat, cheese, pastries and also boiled eggs (coloured for Easter). There is e-mail acess in the room or, for brief periods, free in the business centre. A quick tram ride gets you to the city centre and the lake. There are several resteraunts nearby and Zum Alten Lowen was very good (but not cheap). The staff were all welcoming (with a glass of wine , water or juice offered on arrival) and helpful. The only downside is a lack of parking. There are plenty of 2 hour meters but only 10 or 12 designated spots.
