Rixos Libertas, Dubrovnik - Disappointing Experience

Extremely disappointed - in my opinion, the Rixos Libertas is a 5 star hotel with prices to match whilst offering, 3 star standards and service.
Excellent location (20 minute walk to the old town or 5 minutes by taxi) spoiled by the very poor standard of service provided by mainly temporary staff. The few permanent staff are generally very nice but given the fact that thet are 'few and far between', they are simply not being given the back-up to improve matters.
Accommodation is, at best, basic and equipment 'cheap' and prone to breaking-down (Air-Con/TV etc.). Room cleanliness is not great either - staining evident on fabrics.
Views from the rooms and the sundeck however are spectacular but pool / sundeck area is awful - more like a helipad and from the adjoining 'restaurant' (which serves very average food) thumping music plays for most of the day - take your ipod with you to block out the noise!
The facilities in general are resonably good (Spa etc., but they are very pricey).
A new Italian manager has recently been appointed to operate the hotel - he'll have his work cut out for him and so it's likely to take a while before this hotel is able to deliver what it promises.
On a positive note, the Rixos Libertas seem aware of their shortcomings and therefore they should be improving matters going-forward.

Have just returned from one week in Libertas Rixos with my husband and three children. According to many locals we spoke to the Rixos is regarded as the best hotel in Dubrovnik.
The lobby area is beautiful - very airy and spacious and check in was excellent. Reception staff, particularly Daniel, were all top class. Breakfast was also very good - served in a lovely restaurant with lots of choice. We had interconnecting rooms on the second floor - lobby is on the 11th floor. The rooms were good if not as spacious as other 5 stars I have stayed in. I do think that while most of the hotel is 5 star quality there are some areas that don't quite come up to scratch. While the outdoor pool and bar area are fine and the view is beautiful the area for the sunloungers is just all concrete slab and the sunchairs were hardly top quality.
Service with one exception was good. Food was okay.

Myself and my wife stayed at the Rixos for a week of our honeymoon in early July. When we we arrived we were incredibly impressed by the huge atrium/lobby area and the staff were very helpful checking us in. They even provided a bottle of bubbly in our room (worth playing the honeymoon card!). When we started to look a bit closer, it was obvious that the hotel has been rebuilt on the cheap. There are many areas of the finish that are already crumbling and broken, and its only been open a few months! Having talked to locals, they said that it is owned by a Turkish company who used their own contractors, and so they are reluctant to get them back over from Turkey to sort out all the issues! Overall it has the impression of a well-designed 5 star hotel having been built with the cheapest materials and labour around. The location is wonderful, though. Clear sea to swim in and not too far from the old town. The breakfast is absolutely fantastic, too. There was no hint of smell in the bathroom, but we did note 2 plug-in air fresheners had been installed, possibly to combat it. The shower leaked all over the floor when used, which was annoying, and the television kept freezing so we couldn`t use it. The maintenance man just came and shook his head despairingly and then walked off muttering in Croatian!
The one evening meal we ate there wasn`t very impressive and quite pricey so we ended up eating out in Dubrovnik the rest of the time. (Note: stay away from the Nautika restaurant - 2 bland starters and 2 drinks came to over ?100!!!)
In summary, it`s a very impressively-styled hotel in a great location, but just don`t look too closely at the finish and decor.

My husband and I have just returned from staying at the Rixos Libertas. We were more than satisfied with the hotel, staff and service. Our room was on the second floor and I could have spent the whole week on our patio (with sunbeds) taking in the picturesque scenery. I would highly recommend this hotel to friends and family although I must say that Dubrovik is by no means a cheap holiday destination.

had a week at the libertas rixos here is a summary of what we found
1-rooms brilliant light /clean/airy with a view from the balcony you could die for even sun beds on the balcony if you like your own company and want to sunbathe in private
only down side is the cupboard space is a bit limited if just 2 persons for 1 week you are OK but any longer or a larger family would struggle (i think the family rooms are larger anyway)
2- food breakfast very good spot less buffets with many choices even diabetic jams and marmalade's i thought a very nice touch
we only dined in the hotel 1 night but food was good and not as expensive as i thought however we did not eat in the most expensive gourmet restaurant pool bar is good with some varied lunches on offer
3-position very good walk in to the old town a bit longer than 20 Min's if you are getting on a bit like me especially in the unusually hot weather we have had buses are good if you know the timetables and restricted services at the weekends and holidays
4- sun deck is a sun trap like nothing we have seen before sun from 8 am to 6 pm no need to move beach is not really a beach just a small bit of shingle but very refreshing swimming in the crystal clear water
5- service again good and enthusiastic with the porters most pro active helping when ever they can
staff probably need to improvise more Saturday morning not enough sunbeds but it took a while before a supervisor could get more beds out
(that however is another subject)
overall very good no fishy smells no pool out of action we can recommend to adults of any age but not for young children or teenagers
