This is quite possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. We arrived late after booking through a website that we use all the time and have never had trouble with. When we arrived the lady at the front desk claimed she didn't receive our booking (even though we had a print out with the confirmation number etc). She then threw a fit because some mistake was made and they were "fully booked" and made us feel like we had done something wrong! I was so shocked with her rudeness - I have never experienced anything like it in the service industry. I requested a full refund as I was wary of staying in a hotel with such incredibly rude staff and was told this wasn't possible. We were then put in a smoking room which where the air circulation was dreadful - resulting in very dry throats!
The buffet breakfast (free with our accommodation - another thing the woman was angry about) was so bad that we didn't go back after the first morning. The food was dreadful and it was so packed we had trouble finding a table.
All staff at the hotel were very rude and unprofessional - prehaps they do not pay their employees enough because they had no idea how you should treat a hotel guest. They also charged for strange things - for example, we were charged three euros for asking room service to bring us an ice bucket to chill our wine!
I would absolutely never stay at this hotel again nor will I ever stay at a Golden Tulip hotel which obviously has very low standards.

I stayed at this hotel whilst on business.
On the morning after arriving I called down to reception to ask to borrow an iron as there was not one in the room.
I was told that it was not hotel practice to lend out irons and that I would have to put my items into the laundry (at a cost of over 15 Euros for one item ) and would recieve them back at the end of the day.
I travel a lot and never have I been refused an iron. The hotel appeared to be doing this to make some extra money.
This, coupled with the rude staff and shabby interior of this hotel, means that I will not be returning to the Hotel Altis next time I am in Lisbon on business. It is certainly not to the standard I would expect for a 5 star hotel

We got this place through the Tourist Info office in the city after arriving in town in the evening with nowhere to stay. They got us a rate of €120 which we were happy with.
Its got some great features that we didnt use like pool and gym and restaurants. The room was fine apart from the hard bed. Large room which was good as we had to wash all of clothes and do a repack. Lisbon sucks for laundromats (there is only ONE self service place (about 10 mins walk from hotel).
Good breakfasts included.

We stayed for one night in this hotel which was booked for us by friends. We arrived in late afternoon and got a room to the backyard of the hotel in the fifth floor. Probably, we won't return.
What was good:
- Location of hotel is ok, as a subway station is in front of the hotel (the location itself is nothing special)
- The boys at the entrance were extremely friendly and gave us the impression to be heartly welcome (including valet parking)
- Bathroom has a tub
What was bad:
- The room was really small - esp for a 4 star hotel with a 150 Euro rate...
- The twin-bed was EXTREMELY SMALL, with a width of approx 1.2 meters for two persons....!
- Breakfast wasn't that good
- The staff at the reception was very RUDE! Funny, that another traveler here made a similar experience (the user posted on Oct 12th 2007) -- the lady at the reception did not smile nor she gave us the impression to be welcome at the hotel.
We paid 150€ for one night and if the room rate was about the half of this rate it would have been ok. After this experience, we won't come back. Especially the rude staff at the reception was ridciulous.
