First of all it is a Business hotel since its location is very convenient if you have to go to the Fair. It is not far away from downtown but you can find logistically speaking better places than the Leon d'Oro.
Another good point is that the hotel is in walking distance from the train station.
Apart from that the hotel looks a bit old but still ok. Rooms are quite clean, I got a room with bathtub and also bathrobe.
It has private parking and even if it very close to the main entrance to Verona it is not noisy.
There is wireless internet service in the rooms even if you have to pay for it.
Breakfast is ok, with choices of croissant and several marmelades.

Verona Opera Season

I recently stayed in Verona for 4 nights and went to see Aida. We flew to Brescia airport and found getting into Verona on the Shuttle bus very easy. You pick it up just outside the airport and it drops you off outside the train station in Verona. Our hotel, Leon D'Oro, was just a few minutes walk from the main train station and about 0.5 km away from the Arena. The hotel was extremely pleasant. Very clean, beautiful rooms and very helpful staff. We had bought our opera tickets in advance over the Internet and just had to collect them from the box office next to the arena.
The Opera was absolutely magnificent - words can't really describe it. If you love a pure sound quality this was not the place to hear it but if you wanted to experience an absolutely exceptional music extravaganza with incredible atmosphere I can't imagine anything would beat it.
Also for anyone wanting a day in Venice or Milan, trains run regularly from Verona station. If you want a particularly fast train it is worth booking your ticket in advance i.e the previous day. Don't leave it until the moring of departure as all the tickets may be reserved.
An option to consider if in Verona

All in all, a pleasant stay - and better than expected considering some of the comments I've read.
Check in went smooth, the reception staff was professional and service minded.
Parking in underground garage at a rate of € 15 might be expensive, but then i don't know the going rate for parking in Verona - so it might not be as bad afterall.
The lobby area was nice (maybe just a tad uncosy). Rooms also nice, but in general the hotel seems to be past it's prime - a renovation might be in place during the next few years.
The price is quite high, unless you find an "internet bargain", as we did through an international hotel booking engine.
Breakfast was good but not a must, a decent range of food - but at € 10 you might find better deals at cafes/restaurants in the area nearby.
The hotel is located some 10-12 minutes form the city walls (of the old town). If you arrive by car it's easily located, which is nice when driving in Italy:)
We found the location quite allright, although you have this 25m underpass next to the hotel (we did not find this underpass as bad as some of the reviews, although I can imagine it's not nice during night if you're walking alone.

The hotel is situated slightly out of town, but just a 10 minute takes you to the sights, it is very handy for the train station though! The hotel had very spacious rooms and a lovely bathroom which looked quite new. I was surprised, given how much i paid, that the room was so great and can only account for this by saying that we must have gone slightly out of season. The hotel is accessable via an underpass to the city centre which i can imagine is not the most savoury place to walk through late at night on your own, but this does not detract from a very pleasant stay.

While I agree with almost everything that has been said of this hotel already, I do need to add this commentary as I think it will shed some light on what one can expect staying here.
Plus: Beautiful hotel, most staff are wonderfully friendly, breakfast buffet delicious, nicely appointed
Minus: Long walk to centre
Here's my story:
I brought a group of 20 here to this hotel as a tour guide. Last night, an elderly lady from our group was robbed of her passport, money and credit cards while at the Opera. This morning, I approached the desk to send a fax of our police report to the consulate to get a temporary passport, and also to order taxis for my group to go to the centre. "You're not checking in or out?" the desk clerk asked me. I replied that no, our group was already in the hotel and I needed to send this fax to the consulate and needed her to call for a taxi for my group. "Well, can't you see I'm busy??" My response, "Well, yes, I can see that, because I've stood here waiting myself for 20 minutes." "Stand over here and wait!" she shouted at me, and took the person in line behind me. "Excuse me," I said, politely, "but this really can't wait and is a rather urgent matter, and furthermore, I have been waiting already." "STAND OVER THERE!!!" She shouted at me. Obviously, this woman should not be working with the public in a job that can get busy and stressful from time to time, but no apology was forthcoming as I stood and waited another 20 minutes for her to take people behind me in line.
This is just one treat that I was in for on my stay at this hotel, because I was also stuck in the lift/elevator for 1.5 hours the night before, and the alarm didn't work. When I told that to the front desk, the clerk just shrugged her shoulders.
If you want to stay at a hotel that values you as a customer , obviously this hotel is not it. I stay in a lot of hotels, and I see all sorts of bad behavior, but this one really took the cake.
