stayed here for one night for a business trip - paid ?66 - a very good deal. yes, the elevator still does not work, but they carried my luggage up the 4 flights of stairs. i found the reception staff to be very friendly and helpful. my room was small-ish, but clean and the bed was comfortable. bath was small, but clean. the neighborhood is a bit dicey - i wouldn't stay here if i were a woman travelling alone. it's a very basic hotel, but should be fine for budget-minded tourists who don't mind stairs.

I booked EuroRail passage from London to Paris through Hospitality Lines. As part of the service, Hospitality Lines selected a 3* or better hotel for us. We were not allowed to know the name of the hotel until after we paid for all - Hospitality Lines "selected" the Regina Opera for us. Let me start by saying that Hospitality is an antonym for the service we received. The hotel was despicable and the service from Hospitatalty Lines was at best in-hospitable. Regina Opera is at the end of Rue St Denis, a street rife with prostitutes, petty theives, sex shops and drunkards. At any hour of the day you are likely to be assaulted in the neighborhood. One evening on our return home, we were accosted by an aggressive pan-handler. We couldn't get in the hotel because the front door was locked. The desk person appologized - he said he has to lock the front door when he goes to the bathroom. He advised that if he leaves the door is unlocked while he is not at the desk, the street people come in. Inside the Hotel Opera, the rooms are tiny, dirty, dank and lacking services such as regular hot water. When we visited the hotel, we were advised that the elevator was out of service and that there was no bellman. We were required to carry our luggage up three flights of spiral stairs barely 3 foot wide. If a fire has started, we all would have died on those stairs. My aged parents wear pacemakers and barely survived the stairs. The final insult ocurred on checkout day. Because the elevator was sill inoperable (I think it has been broken for years), I paid the desk person to bring our bags down to the lobby. When we received the bags, we discovered that they had been rifled through and things were stolen from my brief case. The manager was insolent and unhelpful. Add to the cost of any stay at the Regina Opera, the price of any valuables left in the room. My advice is to avoid The Regina Opera and Hospitality Lines at all costs!

Good location, near Bonne Novelle Boulevard Metro Station. The street (Rue de Mazagan) where the hotel is situated is not very clean and is a little ''ill-looking''... Nice Breakfeast. Small Bedrooms. Small Bathrooms. The General Look of the room was not the better. The elevator didn't work during our stay (5 days). The bedrooms were very clean. I think that with the same price we may stay in a better hotel in Paris.

We stayed at this hotel in August 2005 - we arrived late at night after being dropped off many streets away by a very unhelpful taxi driver and had to walk down dark, dubious looking streets so our first impression of the location was not great to say the least! However the following morning we discovered that there was a subway station at the end of the road which would get you anywhere in Paris and the area was not as bad as we had feared, there were several good cafes for breakfast/dinner in easy walking distance. Our room was a bit disappointing - small, strangely shaped and a view of a brick wall making the room dark and dingy. The carpet was stained and there was a musty smell - we did not complain because we were only staying 2 nights and we only wanted a base. We ate out for all our meals and spent very little time in the room really. One other concern was the lift which was very small and creaky although it did get us to our floor everytime and I suppose that's a consequence of an old building. All in all we had a good weekend in Paris and this hotel provided a convenient base on a limited budget - if I was returning I would probably try somewhere else.

I read all the trip advisor reviews for this hotel before I went and found them really useful. The hotel was very clean and the staff were really helpful and friendly. The metro is at the end of the road and we were able to go all over Paris during our stay. As lots of reviewers said, the Rue Mazagran itself is a bit run down but it is soon to undergo a face lift and we saw signs up announcing some redevelopment there. No groups were hanging round the hotel itself when we were there but there were groups on the street corners. We never felt threatened and tended to stroll down the boulevard towards the Place de l'opera in the evenings with no problems. We thought this was a great little hotel for the money we paid. We would certainly stay here again, breakfast was included in our deal and we enjoyed it.
