Good hotel, shame about the area.

Let me start by saying the hotel itself was very good. The room was large, comfortable with a modern bathroom and a balcony and very clean. I agree with a previous comment about the beds - they are extremely comfortable. The buffet breakfast is included in the room price - the usual ham, cheese, fruit, bread, pastries etc.
However, I would have preferred a hotel in a different area. I was unable to find a picture of the Hotel in day light and I can now understand why. See my picture. The roads immediately surrounding the hotel seemed shabby and rundown in my opinion. There was rubbish lying next to the large bins in the roads for most of the week. The pavements leading to the main streets were covered in dog excrement. On the corner of the hotel block, a rat died next to it's hole in the pavement on Sunday. It was simply kicked into the gutter and was still there on Friday when we left.
There didn't seem to be a lot in the way of restaurants/cafes in the immediate vicinity. The hotel told us about a pizzeria 10-15 mins walk away. If I had been a lone woman staying here I would have thought twice about going out at night. The streets were always empty when we went out /returned in the evening.
The Best Western website advertises Room Service. There is no room service menu in the room; you have to go to reception/bar. On our first evening we thought we would have room service and get our bearings in the daylight next day. We were told the only thing available was a toasted sandwich.
Good comfortable hotel, but not the location for me. OK for an overnight stop.
