You can't get better as long as you stay in a Condo and pay the big bucks!..$40.00 more a night for the renovated ones.
We stayed in two bedroom condo
all new Kitchen with Granite, two full bathroom, laundry, private Balcony, hardwood throughout..stunning!you only get "high end" if you pay "high end"..worth every penny!
Iguess there are some old rooms still in this hotel, hopefully delta will fix it up..it takes time...they were very clear to me when asking if I would like new renovation or old
Grand Disappoinment.

We just returned from our holiday and were disappointed with this hotel, at check-in the staff was rude and did not offer any information about the hotel (which set of elevators/two towers, where to park but asked to move our car). Parking is extra. The hotel is beside a casino, wouldn't want a room on that side with young children but we were across from the ice/pop machine, which had a door but somone kept propping it open. It was clean and a nice location but not a Grand Hotel for the price. Next time we'll stay at the Manteo, it looked beautiful and beside a lovely beach.

Not 5 star, but very nice. Shortcomings first--kitchen appliances and utensils were so-so; frig did not have ice/.water; loud dishwasher; no way to play DVDs or CDs in room; furnishings were a little bit of a mish-mash; and soundproofing could have been better. Also, did not care for the $10 per day parking fee. That was for self park, and if you've driven here, you have little option about this. Hate to be nickel and dimed these days. Nevertheless, these negatives did not interfere with a very enjoyable stay. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the location was excellent. The 2 bed/2 bath suite was very spacious and the setting on the lake was great. We did not have a lake view, but faced the lagoon on the property. A very pleasant place to spend our vacation. Housekeeping was good and our unit was very clean. The resort is being renovated, so perhaps the furnishings will be improved with time. Ate only once in the restaurant, and it was fine but will not attempt to rate the restaurant on just the one time. There is a nice variety of restaurants very close.

The Luxury Resort that just wasn't

This was my second stay at the Grand in Kelowna. I have very mixed feelings about this hotel. It tries to promote itself as a luxury resort, but it just doesn't seem to cut it. On both my stays I have had a longer than normal check in process. This time it was due to computer problems, no blank key cards, and a desire to upsell me to valet parking from self park. Not a big problem as when you do lots of business travel you just come to expect delays. However, these delays seemed to be avoidable and just a bit irritating.
I had booked a junior suite on the club floor. The last time that I stayed here I had a junior suite, but not on the club floor. The only advantage that I could determine to staying on the club floor was an included continental breakfast.and free wireless internet access. However, the next morning I found out that the 9th floor lounge was open, but no continental breakfast was being served there. You had to go to the restaurant. In the restaurant, the breakfast buffet is setup at the counter of the open kitchen. So, while getting your buffet you are jockeying for position with the wait staff getting other people's breakfast. Just seemed to be a weird and awkward setup. Coffee was self serve, but juice was served by the waiter.
The outside temperature was quite cool, but I could not seem to get my room cool. Put on the A/C unit, but it never did cool the room down. There was one small window that could be opened, but it didn't do anything to bring the cooler air in. After sweating through the first night, I called maintenance and they were supposed to have fixed the A/C. If anything I think that they turned the compressor off so that I could only get outside air in. Funny thing was that I had the same problem with my room last April. One of the other conference attendees offered to switch rooms with me as he couldn't get his warm. Since Kelowna gets extremely (desert) hot in the summer, I would be very careful about staying here in the summer.
I think that they have new carpets since I stayed there last year, but bathroom definitely needs a new facelift as well as the furniture in the room. Speaking of which, the bathroom is huge, absolutely huge compared to the rest of the suite, but has this most tiny walk in shower. The shower head might be okay if you are 5 feet tall or under, but forget it if you are taller. Good water pressure and temperature, but I had to get down on my knees to wash my hair.
This hotel does not have express checkout. You have to go to the front desk in order to check out. I can't remember the last time that I stayed at a hotel where I didn't have the bill slipped under my door in the morning. With a large convention and everyone leaving on the same morning, checkout was an extremely lengthy process. It took me 35 minutes to check out even with four people all working the front desk. That was ridiculous.
To sum it up, this hotel is all about location. Right on the lake, right downtown Kelowna. However, it just doesn't spell luxury resort. With the Westin opening up just a few blocks away, it will be interesting to see if the Grand spruces up it's image. Till now, it has been almost the only "high class" hotel in town.

We recently stayed at the Grand again. Our first visit was a little bit disappointing but this visit definately made up for it!
First of all, the staff were all incredibly kind and helpful. The girl who checked us in, Jolene, was courteous and didn't treat us like we were inconveniencing her (we had felt this way a few months ago at check in);even though we checked in at the very end of her shift. She was also working again the next day and was always smiling and recognized us from our previous encounters. Other stand-out staff were:
*Mike, who helped us get reservations and answered all of our questions regarding activities and even gave us a newsletter outlining different events
*All the bellmen we came into contact with were also great. They were prompt and personable.
*Dana from the restaurant was also incredibly friendly and a great server.
Next, we were informed that because the hotel is currently under renovations (North towers and condos) we recieved a complimentary upgrade to their "Grand Club" floor. The free local calls were especially helpully and the free continental breakfast was unexpected but appreciated.
Overall, it was refreshing to give this hotel a second chance and discover that it has improved immensly. The staff are all obviously friends with one another and referred to each other by name. The mutual respect was passed along between departments and different levels in the heirarchy. The rooms were clean, the gym facilities were excellent, the rate was decent, and the location can't be beat!
