A friends group of 8 persons we booked four rooms at the Best Western Senator Hotel .shortly the hotel lobby and all the hotel ambiance is very warm high quality four star hotel, very friendly reception staff , The rooms was super fine decorated, very fresh complietely renewed very clean bathrooms . The breakfast open buffet ,was very good with a wide variety of western and turkish items. The hotel has a super fine decorated A la carte restaurant ,deligous turkish foods.
Hotel location was great, easy access to the most famous historical monuments. Grand Bazaar located very near to the hotel just 10 minutes by walk , Blue mosque , Hagia sophia museum ,topkapi palace all within walking distance

First of all, who cares about a lobby? No one stays in a lobby for an extended amount of time, so why do so many people comment about how great a hotel's lobby is?. In the Senator's case, it is a facade to mask the inadequacies of the rest of the hotel. My fiancée and I checked in and the front desk took our passports and stored them in a drawer (easily accessible and unlocked). We were a bit confused and let it go for the time being. When we asked for them back a few hours later, the front desk asked as if they were better equipped at keep my important document than I was and were upset when I demanded our passports be returned. Needless to say, service was poor.
The room was small with an excellent view of an alley and we were excited to find out there is a loud speaker about 25 feet away from the hotel that blasts the call to prayer 5 times a day. We ended up with two rock hard twin beds that I later combined after the front desk said they would not move us to a room with a large bed. Also, the entire hotel smells like smoke whether you are in a non smoking section or not.
The location is pretty good, but not perfect knowing what I know now. We were close enough to a tram that would take us to the tourist sites or the other European side.
The hotel breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. I've been to many countries, including third world countries, and this breakfast is the worst by far. Bread is cold and hard with no way to heat it. Eggs were in a pool of some sort of water, and the selections were sparse.
I could write more about the bad experience, but I'll leave it at this. If going to Istanbul, I'd recommend spending the extra money and going to the Hyatt or Hilton.
