The location was great, and the staff friendly enough. But I suppose the biggest problem was that we didn't get what we requested/paid for, a four person room.
Upon arrival (while my husband parked the car - to the tune of ?54 per day, btw, at the nearest parking garage) the man at check-in noted that one of our children is still a baby and asked if we'd like a crib for him. He even said (and his English was very good, so I don't think it was a mis-translation) that the room had two "king" sized beds, so I assured him that was perfect and we wouldn't be needing a crib. We weren't even expecting "king" sized beds; we understood "doubles" when we booked, and the baby would probably sleep with me anyway. But for some reason he insisted, and we received a crib in the room.
When we went to the room I understood why. Two "king" sized beds amounted to one double and one sofa bed that was, ok, maybe slightly wider than a normal single but definitely wasn't big enough for two people. Maybe two three year olds (but certainly not safe for any child under 2 as had wide gaps down the sides where the folding mechanisms were). Both were horribly uncomfortable, I might add. And the crib was some ancient metal hospital type of thing with a two piece mattress that was too uncomfortable even for the baby!
When my husband went downstairs to see about correcting the mistake he was assured this was a four person room. But even the sign on the door with room prices declared it a three person room! The fellow at the desk told us as of the beginning of this year it was classifed as a four person room, as if the change of the year somehow made the bed bigger??! My husband peeked in some other rooms that did have two proper doubles, but somehow we got gyped. They offered no compensation, explanation, nothing, just maintained it was a four person room, and as there didn't appear to be anything we could do, we paid for a four person room.
Again, great location, but we left feeling cheated and lied to.
Oh, also the breakfast room is mostly made up of two person tables (the few family tables were never reserved for bigger groups and were always taken by couples when we went to breakfast) and has no highchairs.

Well this hotel was kind of a mixed bag. The hotel's location was really fabulous and a short distance to Notre Dame, the Louvre and other sights. The hotel staff at the front desk couldn't have been nicer and more helpful and we so appreciated that. The room was small but adequate. The beds were not at all comfortable and the spreads and blankets were pretty old. The hairdryer was an almost impossible situation and the towels were very dingy gray and tattered...really needed to be replaced. Gray towels do not mean clean to me!! We didn't eat the breakfast at the hotel as we thought 11 Euro was too much...there are so many little cafes in the area to choose from and we found one that was 6.90 Euro for a complete breakfast of juice, cafe au lait, french baguette with butter and jam and two croissants....great deal!!

Stayed here for 6 nights in September. The hotel is in a great loction and we will definitely stay in the same area again. The staff were heplful and the bed was great. However we did run out of hot water quite frequently and bring a hair dryer if you use them a lot as they are not what you expect coming from Australia. The hotel was a bit expensive, around 150 Euros would have been more appropriate. Did not eat breakfast at the hotel as there are plenty of other places around.

This is kind of strange because I haven't actually stayed at the Central St. Germain, but I did encounter what I thought was an unethical booking practice, and I wanted to make others aware of it.
In mid-June, I booked a room there for 5 nights in September at a confirmed rate of 172 euros per night. About a month later, the hotel contacted me to inform me that there would be a 33 euro per night surcharge for 4 of the nights because of an "exhibition period" and I would have to agree to pay the extra money if I wanted to keep the reservation.
What? Never has this ever happened to me. My take on this is that the hotel suddenly got a bunch of requests and decided to try to bump some people and offer the rooms to others at a higher rate. So if I object, they'll just say, "OK, bye," and give the room to someone else. Highly unethical.

Booked and paid a week in advance - got a pretty good rate, but the night before my arrival I received an email informing me that due to a systems error, the hotel had overbooked itself and was unable to accomodate me.
I was shifted into another 3 star hotel around the corner (with a slightly higher trip advisor rating) for no extra charge and I am pleased to say I had a delightful stay.
When you spend time researching exactly where you want to say, it's pretty annoying to be shunted into someone else's choice at the last minute. Next time I will avoid the uncertainty and book direct with the hotel that I ended up staying in. It was great.
