We stayed at the Hotel Berna for 3 discontinuous nights. They wouldn't keep our luggage for us at all, which was a real hassle b/c Milan was our city from which we were traveling elsewhere throughout the week. So, we had to lug all of our bags every time we left. The rooms were in need of some updating, but were basically clean & comfortable. The bathrooms need a great deal of work. I know European bathrooms are usually small, but these are tiny even by those standards. They weren't the cleanest either.
The service was just ok. Everyone seemed to speak English pretty well, which was really helpful. But they all seemed to help us begrudgingly & could be pretty snooty.
There are two highlights of this hotel: 1) their breakfast buffet, which is great. Really nice selection, great service, & the food & coffee is really good. And 2) the proximity to the train station...very, very close at about a 5 min walk.
Would recommend only if you need a cheap place close to the train station. Next time we go, we'll spend a little more if necessary to get a better place. There were several hotels within a 5-10 min walk from the station.

I stayed in this hotel for one night and I was impressed by the level of service with such a low price. The hotel is located in a nice and safe neighbourhood, and is really clean.
The eateries are around and is just a walking dsitance to central satation of Milan. The best thing, however, is teh fact that Malpensa airport shuttle buses are near (adjacent to central station) with 7 or 7.5 Euros.
You get one hour free WiFi per night or 30 minutes work-station for free in the lobby. The bearkfast was nice also. The personnel are really helpful and help you in any regard.

I selected this hotel due to its proximity to the central train station, metro, and airport shuttle drop-off. It was an easy 4 minute walk. And while I wouldn't want to hang out in the area at night, I felt safe enough walking through it. The hotel staff was friendly. The room was very small but clean and had all the necessary comforts, a great bed, and a nice bathroom with great water pressure. I was able to save some money by not having the breakfast, despite the other rave reviews. There are a few cafes in the area to grab a pastry and coffee.
I was especially pleased when I was able to shift my reservation by one day without being charged for the second night after calling the evening I was to arrive. The hotel was very understanding of my delayed travel due to an airport closure.

Conveniently situated just a short walk from the main Railway Station and drop off point for coaches from the airport. 15/20 minutes walk from Milan centre which was a nice stroll through the streets and also a wonderful park area.
There were some building works going on at the hotel, which we were told about on our arrival, started at 9.00 and were finished at 5.00 so didn't cause any issues.
Staff were both friendly and helpful and the buffet breakfast was absolutely amazing, the amount of different items made choosing very difficult. In addition free soft drinks in the mini bar fridge in the room, topped up daily! Tea/Coffee croissants and biscuits available at all times near reception, plus apples and sweets on the reception counter. Oh nearly forgot there were also nibbles available at the bar.
Room wasn't massive and didn't have a view (just the back of the hotel) however, it was perfectly comfortable for our stay.
Good value for money (?70 per night) and I would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget.

I stayed in this hotel 2 times during my trip to Milan this summer. The 1st time (just 1 night in June 08) was a wonderful stay. The room (at the G/F) was modern and newly renovated and I thought they upgraded us to a "Superior Room" (we booked "Quality Double"). The bad thing was some workers were starting their renovation work at 9am and all the renovation materials were put outside of our window (at G/F) and were very noisy.
My 2nd stay (2 nights in early July 08) was not very good. Our room was at 4/F which was a bit old but clean anyway. I was told I can only use internet in my room for 1 hour (with my own computer) but the info card given to me and the info. in website shows I should be entitled to 24 hours free Wifi (I stayed "Quality Double").
Some staffs were not polite or sometimes even rude, maybe because I am Chinese. But they were still helpful and willing to answer my questions.
The website shows that the hotel is 200m from the Railway Station, but if you are not familiar with Milan (like me), you will at least take 15 minutes (or more if you have a heavy luggage) to find the right direction to the hotel.
For such rates (around 100Euros) staying in Milan, this was still a good value for money.
