We arrived at Ettington Park at teatime on Saturday and were made to feel welcome immediately. We were meeting friends as part of a surprise 50th birthday treat and started the break with a delightful cream tea outside on the pretty terrace. The waiter was charming and even brought us homemade cookies whilst we awaited the arrival of our scones and cream.
Following a walk around the stunning grounds we went to our rooms which were beautifully decorated and furnished to a very high standard and we relaxed there ( my husband was delighted to have a huge wide screen TV in the room-so he was extremely happy!)
We met for champagne in the bar at 9pm and the young lady in the bar was very sweet and attentive.
Our dinner was superb, the sallops were perfectly cooked(sometimes an issue!) and tyhe venison that I had as my main was tender and tasty. The chocolate pistachio terrine rouded the meal off beautifully.
The combination of excellent food, great wine and disceet but high quality service, ensured that it was a celebration dinner to be remembered.
Breakfast was of the same high calibre and we convinced ourselves that we all needed to taste the American pancakes with bacon-absolutely delicious.
We departed after another stroll around the grounds and were interested to hear some of the history of the Park from Damion, the charming young chap on duty in reception.
Despite being busy preparing for a wedding later in the morning , everybody was charming and made a real effort to make our departure relaxed and unhurried.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who exp[ects high standards of care, service, cuisine and friendliness. Ettington Park will not disappoint.

Stayed at Ettington Park for one night at the start of June 08. The hotel was recommended by friends of ours. Myself and my fiance stayed there for her birthday.
It was the first time I have stayed in this area so cannot compare it to other nearby hotels, but i can say that this building is fantastic. It has a lovely original gothic appearance and is visually very impressive. The grounds are lovely and the inside is very nicely furnished.
Staff were friendly and would always be willing to assist whenever necessary.
The room was also fantastic and had a comfortable and luxurious feel about it.
We ate at the restaurant which I would say was fairly expensive, however it was a lovely restaruant and was a nice treat. Unless you are willing to travel by car there is very little else to do in the area. The town of Stratford Upon Avon is only 10 minutes drive away and easy to locate. It is a lovely town with a river and lots of nice quaint streets and shops, including food and drink.
Overall I would say that the hotel was a superb choice and we were very happy with our stay, we recommend it to anyone with a desire to visit the area.
The only complaint is that the sauna and swimming pool were closed when we visited and we were looking foward to using them. Plus there was some minor building work, didn't affect our stay but was obvious around the grounds.
8/10

We were a party of 10, celebrating my wife's 50th birthday.
As it was a very special occasion, we wanted a top rate hotel and that is what we got.
From the initial booking, i had a designated events co-ordinator, who arranged everything from bed rooms;A Private dining room and the food and winw menus.
The food and wine was of the best quality and the private dining room was special. All staff were very attentive throughout our stay and made us feel like VIP'S.
The hotel facilties were excellent and we were lucky enough to have nice weather, which meant we could sit outside and enjoy the beautiful gardens.
It all made a special occasion very memorable indeed.

Everything about this venue was perfect and cannot say anything negative about it. If you are looking for something that is very "english" and steeped in history then this is it.
